My experience with my kids does not indicate the kids did exactly what the parents wanted. What we found was that the kids would listen and do exactly what they wanted to do. Sometimes it was what we wanted and encouraged them to do...other times not at all. They never did use the parents’ knowledge and previous discussions with them as guideposts as far as I am aware.
I would take it with a grain of salt if the parents can be held completely responsible.
