Onlookers urged police to charge into Texas elementary school soon after shooting began

Onlookers urged police officers to charge into the Texas elementary school where a gunman's rampage killed 19 children and two teachers, a witness said Wednesday, as investigators worked to track the massacre that lasted upwards of 40 minutes and ended when the 18-year-old shooter was killed by a Border Patrol team.

Department of Public Safety Director Steve McCraw said it was “within 40 minutes or so" from when Ramos opened fire on the school security officer and when the SWAT-like Border Patrol team shot him. Law enforcement officials later said it was unclear if the gunman and the security officer had fired on one another.

“.... the Border Patrol agents had trouble breaching the classroom door and had to get a staff member to open the room with a key.”

So had the teachers been told to lock their doors at the first hint of trouble, he likely wouldn’t have gotten in to murder everybody.

Wouldn’t it be toxic masculinity to rush in? My sarcasm is directed at the left, who have been trying to feminize culture. I do believe men have become very soft.

Agreed.

Thre will be lots of questions on why LE apparently did not assault into the school in a timely manner.

I am not suggesting that anything is a gunfight with a lunatic near other people is easy. But an untrained kid with a rifle should have next to no chance against two or three other people shooting at them. Here is what the BBC reported:
"According to CBS News, Ramos' grandmother, who is in a critical condition, was only discovered after the shooting when officers arrived at her home to investigate.

After driving erratically across town Ramos eventually crashed his car into a ditch near Robb Elementary School at around 11:30am, police said. Some bystanders approached the car to offer assistance.

"People thought that he was in trouble and so they jumped out to help him and he came out of his vehicle and started shooting at them," one person told the Spanish language network Telemundo.

A police officer who works at the school and then two officers from the Uvalde police department all fired at Ramos - but they could not stop him and instead called for back-up, Eric Estrada from the Texas department of public safety told CNN.

Video shared on social media showed a person clad in black jogging toward a side door of the school carrying what appeared to be a rifle.

Texas Department of Public Safety spokesperson Chris Olivarez told CNN that Ramos then forced his way into a fourth-grade classroom.

As police arrived at the scene, Ramos barricaded himself in the classroom and prepared for a showdown with law enforcement officials.

It was there that children were "shot and killed horrifically, incomprehensibly", according to Texas Governor Greg Abbott.

All 21 victims of the shooting were later found in the room.

The gunman was in the school for roughly one hour, police said."

"Marcela Cabralez, a local pastor, told the Washington Post that her nine-year-old granddaughter was eating her lunch with other students when she heard noise coming from outside, including shots and breaking glass."

An empty classroom back door had been left unlocked.

Where’d this kid get a $60,000+ truck?

Where’d he get $1900 weapons with $700 optics?

Likely he was activated from an online DS contact and hooked up with his weaponry.

The FBI escorted the ‘draw Mohammed’ shooter right up to the front door of the event.

They activate these MK-Ultra loons - people they know are are on drugs like Prozac etc. and likely flagged as dangerous - and set them loose to change the political narrative.

Then a stand down order is in place when they show up and start shooting.

Then it’s guns are to blame.

After the one a couple weeks ago they had a 700-page bill already prepared to pass.

How’d that happen?

All seems by design to shape the narrative. These folks are willing to kill babies and old folks in nursing homes with Covid infected. Who won’t they kill?

Too much of what is immediately reported turns out to be incorrect, in just about every story.

I'll second that. I posted this article because it presents some witness stories, and there seem to be a number of media outlets with stories related to the law enforcement response.

Early reports are sometimes incorrect or at least incomplete. It has been reported that some of the law enforcement officers were wounded, and that may have hampered their response.

Based on what has happened in previous school shooting situations I would hope that every law enforcement officer and organization would adopt tactics based on quick action and a head on attack against the shooter.

This is what happens when the “it can’t happen here” mentality backfires.

Any sworn LEO that hung around there for 40 minutes without actively engaging the shooter should be fired at bare minimum.

No police confronting him until after his truck went in a ditch.

No “car chase” as initially reported.

Easy to predict that the early reports would end up being false about these details.

And it was predicted!

“A law enforcement official familiar with the investigation said the Border Patrol agents had trouble breaching the classroom door and had to get a staff member to open the room with a key.”

I would think the first thing a police team would do on arrival is dispatch someone to find the highest access pass key they could. It shouldn’t take long.

I told my children, if you hear gunfire in school, move away from the sound, go out a window if you have to, and run for cover and keep running.

A fence would get in the way.

More info is sure needed to fill in the gaps. I don’t understand why they would wait possibly 30 minutes to confront the shooter. That said, hearing about this tragedy in fine detail is not something that interests me. So horrific.

There has to be more to the story. I don’t see any rational LEO waiting behind a door while hearing the terror in the class room. Was he barricaded incredibly well? Was there a window to the outside in the room where entry could be obtained?

All these bright ideas to harden a school building seem like smart things to spend a lot of money on and dammit we have spent a lot of money. Special doors, ballistic wall protection, etc.

But maybe that’s not such a bright idea?

If you realize.....

That in America there are about 500,000 school buses moving around 26 million “kids” every day.....

These bright yellow machines are VERY soft targets and anyone who wants to do terrible things have an easy way to do so without an “assault rifle”. All that’s needed is a few dollars spent on a gas can, gas and a Bic lighter.

Imagine the chaos if such a thing were to happen.

Seems to me the major problem here was the back door of the school which was unlocked with 600 kids in it. What is the reason for that? Spouse and I live in a house and we keep our doors locked all day long while we’re home. And surely there’s someway to lock these kid’s individual rooms and still leave the children be able to exit if needed. There are locks made that way.

And for heaven sake, if you’re gonna have two main doors unlocked in your school, keep them constantly monitored by somebody that can stop a criminal.
Common sense could really help.
