WSJ ^ | 20-MAY-2022 | Paul Hannon

Sanctions are hitting Russian families at the grocery store as food prices rise amid surging inflation, which is already running at double the rate of the West.

Consumers are falling further behind as wages stagnate in a slowing economy. The situation is expected to get worse as inventories run down, sanctions take effect and buyers adopt strategies that could push inflation higher.

That’s why the ruble exchange rate is meaningless, the exchange rate is being controlled by the Russia government. The actually value of the rubles is falling.

Silly. Every fiat currency is manipulated. The west just got outplayed here for the moment. The greenback printing so much money over the last decade. Where were you to say, the only reason the currency hasn’t collapsed is because of qe1,2 3 & 4. Also, at the barrel of a nuke the U.S arbitrarily forces Sauds selling to China to do so in dollars. Not exactly free floating currency. I think the people running the show are absolutely clueless. Repukes and Rats alike.

Printing money for the last decade. Buying back treasury bonds...you know, just a bit of manipulation has been going on by the fed for awhile now...

Having read through this thread, would it correct to say the US sanctions placed upon Russia has hurt the American citizen just as much as the Russian citizen???

Hard times for most Russians, but not their own government making war against them.

So then why aren’t you moving all your money into rubles? You can get 14% interest! That is a much higher return than any American investment?

Is this supposed to make people who can afford gas or food gut not both feel better? Sounds like more Biden bullshit to me.

That's why Russia is lower its interest rates?

The ruble is at a four-year high compared to the dollar. The ruble is worth more than twice as much as it was after the sanctions first hit.

Russian is collecting more in oil revenue than before the war began.

Next up? Wheat for rubles!

Face it, Speedy, your man Biden's sanctions war with Russia has been, like everything else he's done, a total failure.

The only reason the ruble is holding is that Russia is offering a 14% interest rate. That has kept the currency from collapsing, but it also is destroying their economy.
β€”β€”β€”-
Many factors, China opened up about 80 banks in Russia recently, offering 8-12 percent interest, ( your quotes on Russian interest rates, I would like to see reference). and now the Yuan, Indian Rupee, and Ruble are convertible. That is more than half the worlds population dumping dollars, even the financial greats are saying prepare for 7-10 trillion in USD dollars coming home- the USD has been dethroned, like it or not.

Throw all those dollars coming home piled onto our inflation, ……
Vlad and Xi say checkmate.

β€”β€”β€”
BS. Putin tied the Ruble to gold, and is taking gold and Rubles for his commodities, food exports, metals, oil, gas, diesel, NG and energy.

Russia is a major exporter of everything the west needs, they are in need of nothing, self sufficient. Long predicted, currencies will trade on commodities not a promise to pay ( the USD and Euro)…get back with us in six months and you will be astounded at the Ruble, already trading 20 percent higher than when brain dead Joe weaponized the USD.

I’ll bet the Rooskies have no problem buying baby formula. That their truckers and farmers have no worries about diesel fuel prices. Diesel/kerosene/jet fuel/heating oil is always easier to refine out of crude than is gasoline. Thus should always be less expensive. Does anyone know the prices in Russia of diesel vs gasoline?

I blame high diesel prices in USA and Europe on insane low sulfur policies by EPA and EU regulators. These greenie creeps have no real work to do so they regulate the shyte out of diesel. Even for our ships now! That are out on the ocean where all sulfur goes into the wide expanses of oceans.

Russia has capital control now just like the CCP, people need permission to trade their rubles to foreign currencies. They are artificially holding up the exchange rate.
