The pro-Bandera Nazi Azov “battalion” (actually much more, a battalion is 1,000) was sent to Mariupol after the 2014 USA-sponsored Maidan coup to forcibly occupy it AGAINST the will of the Russian-speaking pro-Russian majority.
That’s why it took less Russians than Azovite occupiers to drive the Azovites into the steel plant tunnels. The actual pro-Russian locals HATED the Azov Nazis.
Now, the Azov Nazis are heading to various POW camps.
Non-Azovite Ukrainian Marines surrendered 3 weeks ago. No problems.
The most recent Azovites who just surrendered are going into 2 categories: No Nazi Tats: POW camp in Donetsk, for POW exchange.

That vetting process of Azovite Nazi POWs reminds me of something that my father described experiencing when he arrived in North Africa in 1942.
The fighting had just ended and my dad’s unit was given the task of processing German POWs. There were SS mixed in among the Wehrmacht. Hard cases, as opposed to normal German soldiers.
The SS all had tattoos on their arms. Blood type and maybe something else. A tough New York Jew took the job of having the POWs roll up their sleeves to expose the distinctive SS tats. He likely took a special interest in his job. About the same as the Russian speaking Ukes probably are.

That’s like the picture I remember. A photo of civilians lying dead in the street, some with their hands tied together. Someone pointed out that they also had white ribbons or armbands but I didn’t know what that meant.
This was before I’d ever heard of Maidan or Azov or the Orange Revolution or any of the rest of the convoluted post Soviet politics of Ukraine.
The Russian troops who had occupied the village were accused by the press of murdering civilians as they pulled out. I was suspicious of that claim and thought it was more likely to be some kind of gang or criminal war.
When armies pull out they leave a power vacuum and then you get a chance to see what real anarchy looks like. Rule by the violent. My dad had seen that in WWII as his unit moved through France and Germany and it was something he never forgot.
If one victory against besieged infantry makes you happy then enjoy it while you can.
Izyum is about to be encircled with 20,000 orc troops facing a similar siege. Let’s see if the Soviet forces can hold out for three months like the Ukrainians did.
