Trump: With a different president, your ‘401(k)s will drop down to nothing’ (oldie but goodie)

Americans’ retirement and investment portfolios would suffer under another president, and the economy wouldn’t be as strong as it is now, President Donald Trump said in remarks to reporters after the Labor Department’s jobs report for June.

Since November 2016, when Republican Trump claimed a surprise Electoral College win over Democrat Hillary Clinton, the Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, -0.75% has risen roughly 45%, the S&P 500 SPX, -0.58% has gained 47% and the Nasdaq Composite COMP, -0.26% is up nearly 100%, he said on Thursday. “These are not numbers other presidents would have,” he said, observing that others might be more inclined to raise taxes.

He continued:‘Your 401(k) will drop down to nothing, and the stock market will drop down to nothing.’ He credited the growth of the stock market to his administration’s actions, including the federal government’s response to the coronavirus crisis. “This is not just luck,” he said. “This is a lot of talent.”

Two major Wall Street institutions in as many days, though, effectively presented rebuttals this week, with Citigroup strategists saying Tuesday that Trump’s presumptive Democratic rival, Joe Biden, would bring a clearer and more rational approach to trade and less policy volatility overall and strategists at J.P. Morgan having stated a day earlier that a Biden presidency would have a neutral to positive stock-market impact.

As the S&P approaches and drops below its value on Inauguration Day, I think the government will start cranking up the money pump again. It will be inflationary and destructive, but I don’t think they can bear another “told you so” from Trump.

Too bad most people will never hear those prediction in today’s context. The media is the enemy of the people as Trump said...he was right about that too.

I hope that when people open their 3rd quarter statements in early October and see their nest egg gone, they put two plus two together and vote against every last Democrat on the ballot. Assuming they can afford gas to drive there.....probably a good excuse to ramp up mail out ballots
