Authorities in South Carolina have recovered the long-missing remains of Brittanee Drexel, the 17-year-old New York girl who vanished while on a 2009 spring break trip to Myrtle Beach.
Georgetown County Sheriff Carter Weaver announced during a Monday press conference that Drexel's body was found on May 11 — and that police have charged 62-year-old Raymond Moody with murder.
Drexel's parents were present for Monday's announcement.
"This is truly a mother's worst nightmare," Dawn Drexel told reporters. "I am mourning my beautiful daughter today, as I have for the last 13 years. We are much closer to the peace that I have been hoping for."
In addition to the murder charge, Moody is also charged with with kidnapping and sexual misconduct.

Moody has been in custody on $100,000 bail since his May 4 arrest on an obstruction charge.
He had been identified as a possible person of interest in the investigation way back in 2012.
Weaver said that Brittanee's remains were identified through dental records.
A cause of death was not discussed. Weaver did not take questions from reporters.
Drexel was still a high school student when she left her hometown of Chili, N.Y., with friends for Myrtle Beach, where she planned to visit relatives. But her parents had no idea she was traveling so far.

"I told her I just felt something was going to happen to her," Dawn said. "I just felt it."
Drexel was last seen on surveillance video leaving a beachfront hotel in Myrtle Beach.

I listened to a podcast about her disappearance that painted her as mostly a good girl whose parents were going through a divorce and losing their home in foreclosure.
Many of the kids at her high school went on Spring Break and she wanted to go. Her mother told her no because the girls she was going with were older, over 18, and not really her friends. She did lie to her mother and went anyways.
Once she got down there, the older girls started partying and hanging out with a bunch of older guys. She had a boyfriend back at home and didn't really want to drink and do drugs. Plus, the girls she went with weren't nice to her at all. She felt like they had brought her there just to make fun of her.
She wound up wandering around by herself, and, unfortunately, this was where she crossed paths with Raymond Moody.
Prayers for Brittanee Drexel’s family and friends.
Many states used Capital Punishment in cases for Rape, certainly for 9-year olds.
You Supreme Court decided that was “cruel and unusual” or some sophistry like that.
These victims are just as much victims of the judiciary in some ways, as the disturbed whack jobs preying on the innocent. This is what “enlightened” liberalism brought. Just another in a long line of bat-schitt crazy rulings by our betters.
Why did my post #1 get pulled?
I'm in favor of a speedy death sentence for any sexual penetration of a pre-pubescent child by anyone over the age of 18. From 14 to 18, 50 years in prison.
Nothing will happen to this guy. He will enjoy prison. Someone should put his other eye out, for starters.
Feed the cyclops to the gators.
“That sort of deviant WILL act again and again and again until you kill him.”
Yep, no question about it.

Stating a fact about her behavior is not an indication that "she deserved it".
