Yes, there was something noteworthy about this particular exercise, which I will not go into.

Sending arms/sending 40 billion: There’s two parts to that. Yeah, we’re obviously sending hardware. But as far as I can tell we’re not sending cash , at least from this wad. This money goes to US contractors for new and replacement stuff. That is, by far, the most efficient way to get the congressional kickbacks . The cash never leaves US so Hunter doesn’t have to wait on a check from Burisma. That’s the money Schumer/Pelousy/McConnell are drooling over. Don’t visit DC right now . The drool will ruin your new shoes.

What happens when a Russian sub sinks a US Navy ship?

We find out if our attack submarines can track and kill Russian missile subs.

They have ten 1970s and ‘80s era missiles subs (including a troubled boat, the Dmitriy Donskoi). Taking one out would be tit-for-tat and signal our ability to take the others out as well.

On the other hand, we might have to neutralize as much of their nuclear arsenal as possible (with conventional weapons, so as keep so-called WWIII non-nuclear if that is possible). With our ability to penetrate their airspace, we can take out their stationary missiles, but we’d need some luck to simultaneously take out their mobile missiles and long-range bombers.

We’d have to signal a willingness to offer generous terms to whomever overthrows Putin. We have no interest in a nuclear war in which we turn Russia into the world’s largest ice hockey rink. The Russia people are mostly drunk and stupid, but that doesn’t mean we should wipe them off the face of the earth. But, if they allow Putin to go nuclear on us, that’s what they will force us to do to them.

Besides, killing them all is the clean solution. No more of this winning the hearts and minds of the people of countries we conquer. It doesn’t work.

Lastly, based on Russia’s performance in Ukraine, war with Russia would not be WWIII. It’d be like war with Iraq if Iraq actually had weapons of mass destruction.

However, Russia is equipped with a leadership clique who have the attitude of “we can no longer win but we can make sure everybody loses” - proceed with caution.

The Russians have 650 mm wake homing torpedoes that are impossible to.dodge they come right up the wake and the faster you go the more wake you make. One is sufficient to break the back of a 60,000 ton ship they are ship killers. If they want those ships on the bottom only a near by US SSN will save them and they have to sink the Russians before they get those 650s in the water.

Maybe if the Ukrainians were paying cash.

But they aren’t.

So this is lunacy.

Polish T-72s are now being fitted with reactive armor, but they lack modern sights. When they will be ready to enter Ukraine is not presently known

That’s assuming the heavy equipment can get to the troops that need it.

What is currently in country is a drop in the bucket to what is needed. A handful of M-777s, AS-90s, some bushmasters, and various rocket/missile systems verses 3000 Russian tubes with unlimited shells.

M-777 crews frequently miss 3 for 3 as they have almost no UAVs and a few counter-battery radars. They need lots of practice, something Russian crew have had lots of.

Those ships are probably loaded with M1A1 Abrams tanks our second line tanks , but they could send the M1A2s our T80 killers those have the latest composite armor. Russia will be mighty pissed to see M1s show up they designed their battlefield nukes specifically to kill those tanks the neutrons from the burst react with the depleted uranium in the armor making the burst even more deadly.
