Ukraine's military said it was working to evacuate all remaining troops from the Azovstal steelworks in Mariupol.
"The 'Mariupol' garrison has fulfilled its combat mission," the General Staff of Ukraine's Armed Forces said in a statement on Facebook.
"The supreme military command ordered the commanders of the units stationed at Azovstal to save the lives of the personnel... Defenders of Mariupol are the heroes of our time."
The rest of Mariupol is already under Russian control. The city had been under Russian siege since the start of the war.

Well, each time I see a claim like this, I’ll respond:
This is a SURRENDER, as the people leaving the steelworks are coming out, unarmed, with white flags, and walking over to Russian troops. The opportunity to actually evacuate ended the first week of the war.

However, if all Ukrainian civilians and soldiers leave the city, and it is held by Russian troops, then Ukrainian solders can level it and the Russians inside the city limits. The NATO and US howitzers should help do a lovely job of destroying Russians.
Declare victory and withdraw all your forces.

The West should have been driving hard toward a negotiated settlement from the start.

Putin is not the most hard-core nationalist in Russia. Getting rid of him won’t eliminate Russian nationalism. Many in Russia think he has been TOO RESTRAINED in this war.
