U.S. should prepare for drawn-out conflict if China invades Taiwan, war game suggests

The year is 2027. China has invaded Taiwan and the wheels of all-out war have begun to turn.

“We are not going to let them survive the initial onslaught of our military operations,” says one of the masterminds of Beijing’s military strategy. “We are not going to let the president of Taiwan survive the first day.”

To achieve that swift decapitation of Taiwan’s government, China casts a wide net of destruction — even pre-emptively attacking American bases in Japan and Guam. The U.S. responds by bombing Chinese ports and Australia mobilize forces against Beijing as the worst fears of the U.S. and its allies unfold in the Asia-Pacific.

It may sound like a purely academic exercise but, in fact, it’s deadly serious.

These hypothetical military operations were planned by U.S. lawmakers, former Pentagon officials and China experts as part of a war game exercise that played out in NBC News’ Washington bureau in April. The teams spent some five hours on an exercise that for the Pentagon would typically take up to five days.

Hopefully Trump will be president to prevent it by then. IF the Chicoms wait.

In 2027, Trump will have been president again, for 3 years.

So, China will not dare go to war over Taiwan.

Now, if the president happens to be a democrat (highly unlikely), then, there won’t be a war either, because China will be allowed to just walk in and take Taiwan.

Large swaths of the PLA have been engaged in industry rather than army life. How much out of the whole is a question.

And we really don’t know who will be in Charge of China.

Doesn’t Chairman Xi have some serious medical issues?

Where does this reporter get off? We wouldn’t nuke them for attacking Guam? We have to be willing to sacrifice the island?

That means Taiwan has 5 years to arm. Mandatory conscription.

Attack Guam, not invade. Make the airfields unusable, damage port facilities, etc. The point is to deny or inhibit the use of the base.

I guess they could plan to invade Guam too, but it wouldnt be till after they have decisively beaten the USN.

Actually I dont see the point of invading Taiwan.

So attacking Guam is ok as long as it’s short of invasion.

“The year is 2024. China has invaded Siberia and the wheels of all-out war have begun to turn.”

This is the much more likely scenario.

What Taiwan really needs are a very large very modern air defense system, tons of mobile cruise missiles, and a doubling of its airforce with up to date aircraft.

Its equipment they need, not men.

None of that requires much more manpower. And Taiwan already has conscription. They are now looking to increase the length of service, but they certainly have the people to man the beaches, after the reservists are called up.

But I doubt the Chinese are going to try land on those beaches until they have air superiority. And thats vs the USN carriers as well as the Taiwan airforce.

“Attack Guam, not invade. Make the airfields unusable, damage port facilities, etc. The point is to deny or inhibit the use of the base.”

Gosh that sounds familiar! Like maybe you can just attack a US Naval base in the Pacific to show how big your balls are and then expect the Americans to roll over and beg for mercy instead of mobilizing the economy for all-out war?

Because that worked so well the last time it was tried.

I certainly wouldn’t say so ... but then again I’m not a Democrat government official who is taking moolah from ChiComs or just being a useful idiot because that’s what those American Last goobers seem to think they should be doing.

If it was up to me we would have never given MFN status to the ChiComs ... or even let them out of the box (as Nixon did) they were once in,

I believe in one China ... and the Taiwan government is the legitimate government.
