I had read elsewhere it’s suspect a Freon leak out of the room air conditioner. While Freon isn’t toxic, it can displace oxygen and you asphyxiate. Doubt there is enough Freon in an air conditioner to asphyxiate someone, especially given that Freon is heavier than air and will fall to the ground and flow underneath the door or any other opening through which it can escape.

Especially since many (most?) of us *drove* around with Freon R-12 for decades, and never heard of any such “toxicity” problem from those! Not even from accidents!
