I have never had a hateful comment from a friend on FB. Not one. I have had hateful comments from past supervised criminal justice people. Blocked them. I suggest people to block anyone at the first sign of hate.
Precisely. I don’t spend a lot of time on FB but I spend none interacting with hateful people. I had one former classmate that I noticed posted snarky comments in response to things I posted, but indirectly (if challenged he could have denied his posts had anything to do with mine.) I unfollowed him; snark away, I’ll never see it! I’m not friends with that many people, primarily family and actual friends. The number of people on messenger is very small.
He mentioned work related messaging. I do have one such app which is required for my job. I keep audible notifications turned off. I finally had to explain to one former supervisor that it was an interruption to my work, and that I did check for notifications several times a day. She finally left me alone about it and my current supervisor is judicious in its use. (The other one slowed way down in its use; she might have heard that I commented that I thought she got paid by the word. I can snark too on occasion.)
I have a personal phone and a work phone and have found that having their ringers turned off decreases stress quite a bit.
Being of the generation I am probably makes a difference in my willingness to minimize the impact of media, since I was an adult when all of this developed.
