It’s astonishing that people INVITE this intrusion into their daily lives.
......................................................
That statement should be the first sentence of an entire psychological treatise. I say that because I have for years tried very hard to EXCLUDE from my life any and all intrusions which I’ve determined will be in any way detrimental to the physical and mental health of myself and my family. In doing so I’ve come to realize the great wisdom of religious groups like the Amish, the Mennonites, and others dedicated to what some refer to as “the simple life”. I’ve met many such people who have never left the county where they were born, AND NEVER CARED TO EITHER! I explain to friends and family that when I was a kid our family knew very little about what was going on outside our community, and didn’t care to know either. And actually I still feel much the same way today.

You bring up excellent points.

When I was growing up, the addiction of TV at least let you sleep. Some country’s flag came on at midnight, an anthem played, and then the station went dark. I don’t remember how I talked my parents into letting me be up that late.

My parents limited television. When it was nice outside, we had to be outside. TV was a way to know what was going on elsewhere in America and the world. Only much later, did I realize that Sesame Street was inviting me to leave Oklahoma and pretend to live in an urban ghetto.

Your post makes me think that those in the cities will cling to social media, while the rest of us get tired of the taste of saccharine, and leave. It is the elites who are truly addicted, also. More than ever before, they can control the virtual reality of social media, and with it, other people.

I had FB back in 2010-2014. At first, it was a nice way to keep in touch with family and friends. Then it became way too much drama and dopamine addiction. No thanks. It is all vanity.

I even feel that way about texting people. I very seldom reach out beyond loved ones but I won’t ever ghost one who reaches out to me. I just don’t want anyone else’s drama.

Now the focus really is Jesus, family, nature. Seeking simplicity and the quiet, abundant life.
