Symbolic, my boy, symbolic. Any luck getting India to join the sanction? China, maybe? Brazil?

Of course its symbolic, its the UN, but it is an indication of the worlds condemnation. As for China or Brazil, you will never get everyone on board.

I don’t know that this counts as seeing us as others see us, maybe seeing us as one self hating Frenchman sees us. Never heard of this guy before but he lost me by claiming Russia was the strongest military, superior even to ours. That would have been a laughable claim before this war but now they are having their asses handed to them by Ukraine, a force they were expected to walk over.

Providing and coordinating intel with a country at war is by default a belligerent in that war. We are not a neutral country anymore.

Good old "American Stinker", still working for Moscow after all these years.

Being the recipient of a 7.62 X 54 Russian bullet in 1967, I can confirm that the Russians (and the Waraw Pact and China) provided generous and massive aid to the North Vietnamese while they were killing and maiming us.

Payback's a beotch. As I remember, we didn't threaten to burn the world down over it - or even threaten their delivery ships in Haiphong harbor.

UN voted 141 to 5 to condemn Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Weird how Freepers were calling for the UN to be bulldozed only a year ago. Now some have become fanbois.

You mean countries do stuff to hurt other countries?

Wow. I think I have to crawl back into bed after learning this.

The world is, indeed, a dark and unsafe place. //sarc

Think NATO and passive activity that aids Ukraine.

The USAF plane was on a NATO mission

Amazing how “conservatives” have come to believe Putin’s bullshit.

There is no international definition of an Act of War. The UN has defined an “Act of Aggression” but nothing the US has done meets the criteria. Another “conservative” who wants to blame the US for Russia’s belligerence.

I understand your discomfort with all of this. It wasn’t that long ago that I still believed the media supplied conventional wisdom about our superiority in almost everything and certainly in Russia’s inferiority militarily, economically, etc.

But, our getting involved in this “proxy war” has forced me to heavily research it all and it was eye opening.

Actually, while Russia suffered high casualties in the early days of the conflict the situation has dramatically changed now that the battle is in the Dombas area.

Scott Ritter says that Russian losses are in the single and double digits per day now and Ukranian losses are in the hundreds and thousands per day. Over 52,000 Ukranians (killed, wounded, captured) total since the conflict began according to Rybar.

Here are two posts from one of the Russian troops that make that point on Telegram. The kill ratio is high for the Russians.

https://twitter.com/AZmilitary1/status/1519984803122188290

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G6XvM_fFwbA&t=83s

And there is an article from Politico from a Ukranian First Lt. Ivan Skuratovsky, serving in the 25th Airborne Brigade, told POLITICO that help needs to come immediately. “The situation is very bad, [Russian forces] are using scorched-earth tactics,” the 31 year-old married father of two said via text. “They simply destroy everything with artillery, shelling day and night,” he said via text. He fears that if reinforcements in the form of manpower and heavy weaponry particularly air support don’t arrive in the next few days, his troops could find themselves in the same position as those in Mariupol.

Skuratovsky described his soldiers’ situation as “very desperate.” “I don’t know how much strength we will have,” he said, adding that the troops under his command around the city of Avdiivka, near Donetsk, have gone without rest since the start of the war. At least 13 of them have been wounded in recent weeke be said and they are running dangerously low on ammunition, reduced to rationing bullets. The day before, he told POLITICO his soldiers were being bombarded with Russian howitzers, mortars and multiple launch rocket systems “at the same time.” Just hours earlier, he said, they had been attacked by two Su-25 warplanes, “and our day became hell.” Skuratovsky had a message for the United States and other NATO countries: “I would like to tell them that grenade launchers are good, but against airstrikes and heavy artillery we will not be able to hold out for long. People can no longer endure daily bombardments. We need air support now. We need drones.”

Here’s another article: Ukraine’s Army Is In Very Bad Shape - More Fighting Will Only Destroy It

The French news agency AFP has published a report by Daphne Rousseau from near the Ukrainian frontline. It allows us to gain some realistic view of the state of the Ukrainian armed forces.

Packed with exhausted Ukrainian soldiers with clenched jaws, the truck drives away at full speed. The troops from the 81st brigade have just received an order to withdraw from the eastern front where Russian forces advance.
The brigade walked 12 kilometres (7.5 miles) Saturday, camouflaged in the woods and under crossfire, until their point of retreat at Sviatoguirsk.

The 81st Airmobile Brigade consists of 3 infantry battalions equipped with BTR-70 armored personnel carriers that can be loaded onto a plane. It also has a strong artillery group with 3 gun and missile battalions, and the usual hodgepodge of support units.

As the Ukrainian troops had to walk 12 kilometers a question arises. Where are their armored carriers? Even when infantry is deployed in dugouts and trenches its transport should always be nearby (~3 km) to be able to quickly pick it up when necessary.

The most likely answer is that those BTR-70, as well as the brigade’s artillery, no longer exist.

For a month, the 81st — whose motto is “always first” — battled to push back the Russian advance in Ukraine’s eastern Donbas region where Moscow’s troops move forward slowly, taking villages one by one. “Everyone understands that we must guard the line here, we cannot let the enemy move closer, we try to hold it with all our force,” says lieutenant Yevgen Samoylov, anxious that the unit could be hit by Russian fire at any point.

“As you can hear, the enemy is very, very near,” he says, pointing to the sky. The line of Russian tanks is on the other side of a hill, around seven kilometres (4.3 miles) away.

At the start of the war, they spent a month defending Izium, which fell on April 1, before joining the fighting around the village of Oleksandrivka.

“Some really difficult battles,” says the quiet Samoylov. In this brigade, like the others, they don’t say how many people have been killed. When the subject comes up, Samoylov’s gaze becomes misty. The pain is raw.

So soldiers from both sides are reporting the same thing. Very one sided battle now.

And on the subject of military superiority most analysts say the U.S is number one in aviation and Russia is in artillery.

Here is some recent data about Russian superior equipment.

What is the most effective anti-aircraft weapon?
Top 5 best anti-aircraft missile systems in the World
#5 – Chinese HQ-9 long-range anti-aircraft missile system.
#4 – U.S. SAM MM-104 “Patriot”
#3 – French-Italian SAMP-T complex (Eurosam)
#2 – Israeli SAM or GTAM David.
#1 – Russian anti-aircraft system S-400 Triumf.

The U.S. recently confirmed that the Russian Ministry of Defence fired a hypersonic ballistic missile to destroy an underground arms depot in western Ukraine. This event marks Russia’s first use of the Kinzhal ballistic missile in this war and the first known use of a hypersonic missile in combat. Hypersonic missiles are undetectable. No one else has one. (We are partnering with Australia to develop one which we hope will be deployed in 2028.)

Poseidon is an ‘Intercontinental Nuclear-Powered Nuclear-Armed Autonomous Torpedo’. It is a giant torpedo which can hit coastal cities with devastating results. Compared to an intercontinental ballistic missile it is very slow, but possibly unstoppable. No one else has one.

Hmm...and I was led to believe by Senator McCain that “Russia is just a gas station masquerading as a country.”

What could go wrong?

“Whole world has united and condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, with more than 25 countries sending weapons.”

Hello, there. Are you with CNN, ABC, CBS, MSNBC, NYT??

That is quite the ludicrous statement you made there! There are 193 countries on this planet. 25 is 12%. Obviously not the WHOLE world. Not even close!

This is a US & NATO war (the west) against Russia except that the west is letting the Ukrainians do the dirty work and die for their cause. Nothing new there. Ask, citizens of Vietnam, Iraq, Libya, or Afghanistan. They got to pay the ultimate price, too. And for exactly WHAT?

Hello, there. Do you have English comprehension issues? 141 countries in the UN out of 193 voted to condemn, with 5 against. The rest abstained.

Show me where I said I'm fond of the UN. It is useless, but you can gauge world outrage by their vote.

Meanwhile, after +70 days, the Ukes are not only flying the Turkish drones, they are flying 40 years old SU-25s dropping WW2 style unguided bombs. So much for the “best anti-aircraft missile systems”. Your weapons are garbage. For the past decades the whole thing was built upon dudes stealing tens of billions annually, transferring it abroad and at the same time screaming “Russia strong !!!1” and producing North Korea style propaganda. The Ukes, once pressured, simply kicked in it and now it's clear what it really is, a dysfunctional 3rd world country made of toilet paper, basically a pile of rubbish.

The US and the neocons strongarm countries in the UN to vote their way - and the globalist touts on FR hold that up as some sort of "consensus".

There's a lot of "con" in there, for sure...  winking face

No problem here with comprehension, but I am concerned about your grasp of reality!

Only 12% of those countries put skin in the game with arms. How about with sanctions?? That is nowhere near your skewed UN vote where countries were browbeaten, bribed, threatened with loss of aid (our tax dollars), and conned into such a vote by the US to simply raise their hand.

Tell me of the vote in the UN for NATO to expand from 12 countries to 30 some-odd countries right to the doorstep of Russia? And how did those countries vote for the US to support/instigate regime change in country after country including Ukraine in 2013? Or, how was the vote for NATO to aggressively train and arm the Ukrainian military and send billions of our tax dollars to do the bidding of and die for the west?

My friend, face it. This is a war of the west against Russia where the west gets to buy/pay the Ukrainian citizens to die for their cause. That’s a noble cause. Right?

How many people in the west, including the US, got to vote for that effort? How many of them will vote to send their own sons and daughters to die for that cause? Because that is where we are headed.

Ukraine war: What isolation? ‘More than half of world population’ didn’t back West in UN vote...
https://bit.ly/3kMRGDA

And you honestly believe your UN and world countries always get it right?? How right did they get Vietnam, Iraq, Afganastain and Libya? Not such a hot track record! Right?

Yes, it is a noble cause, if the Ukrainians want to fight for their freedom. Our founding fathers thought so to.

"the arms we have been compelled by our enemies to assume, we will, in defiance of every hazard, with unabating firmness and perseverence, employ for the preservation of our liberties; being with one mind resolved to die freemen rather than to live slaves."
