Right. And as of now, it looks like a stalemate. So a compromise is needed. Putin needs to save face. Yet he can’t be rewarded for his aggression.

Maybe Ukraine could cede some of its land in the east to Russia. That territory is ethnically Russian, and it’s probably gone anyway. In return, Ukraine gets a large amount of Russian gold. Everyone can then claim a victory of sorts.

Such an agreement wouldn’t be easy to pull off. It’s a shame we don’t have anyone in the White House now who knows how to make deals.

That was something for Russia to discuss prior to their invasion of Crimea. Once they resorted to force any discussion of letting them keep what they stole was off the table.

“That territory is ethnically Russian”

About 23% of the people living there in 2014 were ethnically Russian. If a population of ethnic Russians is going to be used to justify an invasion by Russia then such populations need to be purged and ejected from the countries they’re colonizing on behalf of Soviet Russia.

They are enemy aliens.

But if they wish to be Ukrainian, Estonian, German, Polish, etc. then that’s fine. Elsewise go back to Russia.
