If the Democrats plunge us into a war that will prove to be unpopular from the start, they will not be merely shellacked in the upcoming election, they stand a good chance of being disbarred from political participation for years to come.
Even Woodrow Wilson, who ran in 1916 as “he kept us out of the war”, had the good sense to wait until AFTER being re-elected before starting the war talk. Same for FDR, who was elected to his THIRD term while pretending to be “neutral”, but was all the time both declaring that America’s sons would not die in a foreign war, and poking the hornet’s nest of the Axis Powers (Germany, Italy, and Japan), hoping to stir them into making an attack upon US interests.
Japan took the bait. And almost immediately expressed grave doubts, but meanwhile overran US interests all across the Pacific, until the turning point at the Gulf of Leyte, which broke the back of the Imperial Japanese fleet.
“If the Democrats plunge us into a war that will prove to be unpopular from the start”
Not sure the radicals in Washington are that savvy.
