The court pushed back the primary and ordered a special master to draw new maps.

So your doom scenario isn’t going to happen.

NY is now determined to use every means possible to mass cheat in elections. In 2020 their was a ballot proposition asking if the people in the state wanted to allow no excuse absentee voting. The people voted no that they did not want that. So the legislature and the governor did it anyways. They said screw the people all the while they talk about democracy. But not when they don’t get their way. Early voting in NY is a new thing too they started in 2020. One of the republican reps in NY had to wait for months as the democrats kept trying to count these fake votes and steel the election from her. They came very close to succeeding.

It is all about stealing elections. And the democrat machine is now full on doing it in NY.

On a related note, take a look at the Illinois “strips of bacon” districts that the Democrat gerrymander created this time around.

As far as I know, Republicans didn’t even bother to challenge this ridiculous partisan Democrat overreach at all, in court or otherwise.

The likely reason WHY they didn’t is because one of those evil pesky conservatives (yes, Illinois actually has one conservative Trump-supporting Rep in Congress!), Mary Miller, is targeted for extermination and the liberal Republicans want that to happen just as much as the liberal Democrats do.

The Illinois maps were challenged and upheld.

The problem is...the Dems OWN the legislature at this point.

The legislature violated the state constitution and a redistricting amendment approved by the voters. The decision was correct.

I have to say, I was not expecting this Court to rule this way - loaded with Leftists.

This is indeed huge news.

There are probably a lot more republican legislatures that have done this in favor of republicans in purple states, and I would hate to see it struck down because of the NY decision...

They already have been multiple times. This may be the first a Dem map that got this kind of treatment because most of the Dem states got their maps cleared by Dem judges while Dem judges struck down GOP maps.

This isn’t quite the first time. In Maryland about a month or so ago the Dems got slapped lightly on the wrist regarding their latest gerrymander (which was really no different than the one from 10 years ago).

So they changed one district (CD-6) from being solidly in their favor to being a toss-up. Unless I’m forgetting one, the Maryland case is the first time a partisan Democrat map was overruled as too partisan, while as you noted Democrat judges have been arbitrarily throwing out Republican maps for years and years.

This might not have been done for a good reason.

Mitt Romney’s niece outsourced this work to GOPe Rove and Crispy Cream. They did get a nice paycheck though https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2022/02/11/exclusive-karl-rove-under-fire-for-redistricting-failures-hes-costing-republicans-all-over-the-country/?msclkid=85a747f6c67511eca970642f3ec4f319

New York State 2014 amendment to the state constitution

If we had not passed this amendment, we would have no leg to stand on with this comically abusive redistricting grab.

The Dems have now cost the NY taxpayers millions of dollars in duplicate petitioning and elections.

How about a new rule nation-wide: Every congressional district must have no more that 6 sides, with a natural boundary (such as a river) counting as 1 side.

only 2 judges voted in favor of the legislature’s map.
One judge wanted to mandate that the legislatures pick one of the 2 maps produced by the Redistricting commission.
4 judges wanted a new map from the special master.

The Maryland map was struck down and a new map had to be drawn there.

I believe they have to do that in order to reinstate the former map.
