Assuming you are asking a serious question I’ll give you my honest opinion.
Putin has been trying to expand Russia’s sphere of influence back to its more easily defendable USSR Cold War boundaries. Those boundaries require Russia to take back several NATO countries. While no one can know for sure Putin’s plans (nor especially what plans he had prior to his Ukrainian debacle), many people believe he intended to expand at least to the Polish border. The US has treaty obligations to defend NATO countries east of that Polish border. If the west stops Putin in Ukraine then a world war on less favorable terms over Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia can be avoided.
