He does not have time to sit in airports...

I think Musk is doing amazing things

Buffett said essentially the same thing. He named his private jet, Indefensible. When they have their stockholder meeting in Omaha, the rows of private jets is something to see.

I was a flight attendant on G 4/450/5/550. Musk’s jet is gorgeous!

Home Depot’s CEO has several private jets, is forbidden to fly commercial and has numerous helicopters at his disposal, he cannot drive himself anywhere, has a security team that nobody in the corporate hierarchy knows how many and he only earns 10 million a year. I would expect Mr. Musk needs a private aircraft if for nothing else than providing proper security when traveling.

From the photo captions:

"In 2016 Elon Musk purchased a $66.5 million Gulfstream G650ER, (model pictured) a favorite aircraft among the one percent..."

I think the editor failed second grade math. :)

My parents were close friends with the owner of a moderately sized cookware company. Back in 1990 he was still driving his 1970’s Cadillac, very down-to-earth guy.

The company DID own a small jet, and his son (today the company's president) was the pilot. (The owner always had very nice yachts too!)

He spent a sight more than 700k running that plane in a year. Fuel pilots Airport fees security.

He is also nuts if he is letting himself be tracked via computer. At these levels of games one guy with a surface to air missile would be easy for the big boys to buy. Scary.

I expect there is more than one jet in the air for him

I was once married to a woman whose father was very rich. I also worked for him. I traveled everywhere in limousines and private planes. The lesson I learned from that experience is that life’s simple pleasures are the best. I would prefer to sit around a fire having a couple of beers with close friends and family than all of that other nonsense. I would not trade places with Musk.

Next he will be seen driving an old pickup truck....
He has / had $100 million in property. He ain’t a regular Joe when it comes to spending money.

Same here is a general sense. They have no private time and no privacy. They always have someone around in their business. I like money, but to be the top of an organization with a hundred thousand employees and hundreds of butt-kissing executive sycophants is not my style.

Flew privately on a Gulfstream V once. It was amazing. It will probably never happen again.

Pretty sure his response was

“Without the jet, I’d have less time to work on getting to Mars.”

Musk lives analog. Older cars, Mercedes I believe. Vinyl instead of itunes et al. He lives with minimal technology. He created Neuro-link because he saw AI becoming problematic (years ago) and saw it as the only way to avoid being destroyed by it. In an interview some time ago, he felt moving to Mars was the safest way. He is an interesting character.

“moving to Mars”
There is no air, the climate will kill you in an instant.
I think moving to Texas is a better idea : )
