The idea of the mask is to stop breath moisture holding the virus.
But I’ve read the airline cabin filters do scrub viruses.

Droplets dry up. Told viruses go through masks or breathed back in increasing your viral load, if you have an infection. That was 35 years ago, and I don’t think science has changed.
Have a pilot friend and, yes, their air in a plane is probably the cleanest we can breathe.
