The Interior Department said in a news release that it will make available 144,000 acres, an 80% reduction from the acreage originally nominated. It will also begin charging companies royalties of 18.75%, up from 12.5%.
The move brings the administration into compliance with a court order but comes as President Joe Biden has sought to encourage domestic production of oil and gas to tame soaring energy prices, especially gas prices above $4 a gallon, that have cut into support for his party before the'Midterm Elections'.
The Interior Department's announcement Friday said the BLM will issue final environmental assessments and sale notices for lease sales Monday.

So they HUGELY increase the royalty they charge the oil companies and how is this supposed to bring prices down?? Oil companies should tell Biden to go screw himself!!!
Provide the EU with LNG and end Russian supply of natural gas to Germany.
And who is going to pay the extra 50% royalty this dolt is charging? Us. Of course us. And who among us is going to be the most screwed by the increase? People with marginal incomes, you idiot. The same ones who may be about to sign the death warrant of the Democrat Party, if there is a shred of justice in this world.
Leases aren’t worth anything if the bureaucrats slow walk approvals of environmental studies and permitting. There’s lots of hurdles between permitting and drilling.
“He did a 180.”
Not quite. He did a 10 degree slight shift.
You know they wil do just that.

*The Fed is not supposed to own land, they were supposed to turn it to the states and the states sell it to the people.*
Ok my friend. The states sell the land to the oil companies who in turn are set to make millions. That’s where the left us by the short hairs. What do the oil companies owe the public besides the highest bid for the land? Sarah was able to hornswaggle a bonus for every Alaskan. They can plead poverty.
Perhaps the individual states can negotiate a certain percentage of the oil drawn and sell at market rates. How about selling the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to the states so that the rats keep their hands off it?
Dramatically lessened scale..( and increase the royalty it charges).
Net gain zero just another hey look at what I did Biden moment
