RICHLAND, Pennsylvania — Jackie Kulback has a very detailed list of criteria that the county party she chairs, the Cambria County Republican Committee, requires to endorse candidates in next month's U.S. Senate primary contest.
“There are some basic things," she said, "such as, have they ever been to Cambria County and talked to the voters? Do their values line up with our values? Which is very important because we are a very pro-life county. Can they raise money? Can they do the job? And finally, can they actually get elected in a general election?”
Kulback, who has worked tirelessly over the past seven years to register new voters and make Republicans a local majority in this working-class western Pennsylvania county, never put much stock in the endorsement of former President Donald Trump as a deciding factor.
Kulback says that is not a rap on the former president, who remains deeply beloved in this county. Many "Trump" signs are still hanging up 18 months after he narrowly lost Pennsylvania to Joe Biden. “It is just that voters here have to vote for what is best for us and our state, and we have to make the decisions based on that,” she said.
It is a sentiment that was shared by voters and party chairs across the state hours after Trump unexpectedly endorsed Mehmet Oz, the celebrity heart surgeon better known as Dr. Oz, in the race here for the Republican Senate nomination.
It was a decision that left many dedicated Trump supporters perplexed. Why did he choose someone who had not resonated with conservatives in such a key state on the Senate map? Who whispered in his ear that this was a good idea?

Oz must have paid him a compliment.
Certainly has me perplexed.
Ping.
Javanka?
Who is behind the Curtin ?
He probably likes Oz on a personal level. He was being gracious.
You don’t have to vote for the guy just because he was endorsed by Trump. Vote for the guy most likely to support our agenda.
I’ve NEVER felt compelled to support an endorsed candidate. Support someone else and work for that person. What’s vitally important among Republican party officials (I am one) is that we agree to support the nominee. If you won’t, why should others support your choice?
Oz is going to lose the MAGA base will never vote for him NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!! Kathy Barnett is the candidate to vote for hands down!!
I will ALWAYS be indebted to Trump for running and then serving in office, taking arrows for all of us and FINALLY forcing the GOP and the Deep State crap into the open.
As to Oz, well, my fingers are getting tired.
Sorry, President Trump...I cannot vote for RINO Oz. Period.
Supposedly this Oz guy praised Trump’s health. At least that’s one of the reasons the article gave.
Freegards
What Trump should do from now on is that anyone who seeks his endorsement from him should be asked if they think the election was stolen. If they don’t think it he shouldn’t endorse them. Remember recently Trump pulled his endorsement from the guy in Alabama for saying we should ignore the steal and move forward.
Ah. That explains it.
Perhaps Trump has future plans for Dr Oz in Trump’s new administration. ‘Not sure how Dr oz would be replaced in Pennsylvania.
Get over it, Trump’s political instincts are greater than most. Whose to say that another choice for PA would have accomplished anything for conservatism. We’ve got bigger problems than this.
I love Trump, but I wouldn’t vote for Dr. Oz ever. Total creep.
Yeah, maybe he’ll join the ranks of all the other failed cabinet members,
Trump endorses like he hires.
You give the guy a chance. Keep him if he does a good job, but look for somebody else if he does a bad job.
You don’t wait for perfection to come to you. That’s how he ran his administration.
I agree with Trump. If you wait until you have that perfect candidate, you’re not going to have anybody fir the job. If you don’t have anybody, they will.
