WASHINGTON — Former President Donald Trump is sitting on more than $110 million in campaign cash at a time when his party is trying to win control of Congress — and it's starting to irk some in the GOP.
They are watching him rake in money from persistent email solicitations to the party's small-donor base and at VIP receptions connected to a full schedule of campaign-style rallies. And they see a man stockpiling a war chest for another presidential run instead of using his prowess to boost the party.
McConnell just made a contribution to Liz Cheney. TV time in Wyoming is cheap. No amount of money is going to save Liz Cheney. The Wyoming GOP kicked her out of the party, so where is she going to get people for a ground operation to get out the vote?
The RNC only allowed Trump to be the nominee in 2016 because they were certain that Hillary was going to win. Having Trump on the ballot saved their mainstream candidates from a defeat and also saved the party money, since they didn’t spend much on his campaign. Then Trump messed up their best laid plans and won the election.
I really don’t think the Republican establishment is going to allow Donald Trump to be their nominee in 2024; he should tell them to go pound sand with regards to the money he’s raised. Irrespective of the midterms, the RNC would like to get that money out of Trump’s control so he can’t use it for a potential third party run for the White House.
“There’s no way Trump will win, but there’s no way his ego will not allow him to run. What a mess.”
What lousy analysis on your part. By very recent polls, reflected in articles right here on FR, Trump would beat Biden by 5 points and he would beat Kamala Harris by approx. 10 points. As too often polls are weighted in favor of Dems, my guess is Trump is leading Biden by much more than 5 points.
Too many anti-Trumpers are now infecting FR. Very sad how many alleged conservatives are all too willing to stick a stiletto in the back of he who ‘brung’ them to the dance. You seem to be one of those people.
First of all, nobody cares about polls that are measuring something two years away. Second, you're assuming Trump would be facing Biden or Harris. That's a bad assumption.
