I agree, and it is a preventable problem even now, if only government would change policies and do something constructive,

With all due respect to MM, this is only partially correct. Globally there have been a lot of natural disasters that have impacted food production. Things were getting worrisome in the 2020 time frame. We see not that natural impacts are being amplified by man made errors/actions - all in the name of not letting a crisis go to waste.
