Just to clarify: in Germany incitement to crimes is illegal. Waging a war of aggression is a crime (Section 13 Code of Crimes against International Law) The Russians are doing just that in Ukraine.
That`s probably what Eisenreich meant when he said freedom of speech ends where criminal law begins.This, by the way, is exactly what our constitution says: Your freedom of speech ends when you insult people or otherwise break criminal law.
So there is no new law making “Z” illegal. Some German states just voiced their intention to prosecute war sympathizers using the Z symbol on the assumption that this use is (or at least could be) incitement to a war of aggression. Whether they`ll really do it remains to be seen. Personally i rather doubt they`d get convictions if they tried.
This is why “hate speech’ laws are overtly unconstitutional. You simply can not (Constitutionally) criminalize mere speech.
As for Russia is waging a war of aggression. It certainly looks that way to me, but as of now I am unaware of any place where the question has even been adjudicated, let alone decided. So Fritz is jumping the gun if that's his excuse.
And by the way, there is no legal prohibition against insulting people that I'm aware of. If there were 90% of us would be in jail, yes? 8^)
