I saw that one. And goood lord, their mission to Nagasaki was an amazing example of airmanship. Shame they never got the recognition as much.

[Talk about being totlally unlcear on the concept. Herman has it ass-backward. ]

This is pretty consistent with existing German law, where simply advocating Nazism is a criminal offense. I don’t agree with the policy, but it’s pretty clear that the Russian invasion of Ukraine is far more dangerous to German security than any number of lumpen neo-Nazi malcontents.

Just to clarify: in Germany incitement to crimes is illegal. Waging a war of aggression is a crime (Section 13 Code of Crimes against International Law) The Russians are doing just that in Ukraine.

That`s probably what Eisenreich meant when he said freedom of speech ends where criminal law begins. This, by the way, is exactly what our constitution says: Your freedom of speech ends when you insult people or otherwise break criminal law.

So there is no new law making “Z” illegal. Some German states just voiced their intention to prosecute war sympathizers using the Z symbol on the assumption that this use is (or at least could be) incitement to a war of aggression. Whether they`ll really do it remains to be seen. Personally i rather doubt they`d get convictions if they tried.

I despise Putin as much as anyone, but for someone to face jail time for voicing support for him is horsesh*t.

...citizens are now barred from publicly displaying the letter “Z,” which has become a symbol used by the Russian army during the war.

Just when you think the insanity can’t get worse. it does. A letter of the alphabet is now banned from display.

These “liberal democracies” Biden was touting as being so much better than the authoritarian ones; where are they?

Bit by bit Western democracies are crumbling and becoming more authoritarian and totalitarian, and it’s not just Germany.

They have rather strict speech restrictions.

What is odd is for this to be made law it is either posturing, or the East is pro Russian.

That's where he has it backwards. The law ends when it gets to free speech. Free speech doesn't end when it gets to the law.

This is why “hate speech’ laws are overtly unconstitutional. You simply can not (Constitutionally) criminalize mere speech.

As for Russia is waging a war of aggression. It certainly looks that way to me, but as of now I am unaware of any place where the question has even been adjudicated, let alone decided. So Fritz is jumping the gun if that's his excuse.

And by the way, there is no legal prohibition against insulting people that I'm aware of. If there were 90% of us would be in jail, yes? 8^)

So pathetically dumb - then others wonder why I get so mad reading here.

Someone asked me last night why I won't call/label myself a conservative. I replied that I won't be associated with doucheholes like Sean Hannity, and approx. 1/3 of the membership here - that's where the morons, shut-ins and silly jabberers live.

That's your demo.... thanks for the justification.
