The Western Allies provided much of the early material for the Soviet war.

Eventually, the USSR had restarted their factories further east to resupply the fight, but even then a lot of the fodder came from the US.

Then, as now, the West was letting the two combatants grind each other down long term before going in.

Your assessment is correct. I made a similar comment. This op is what looks to be a decapitation op.

MSNBC’s Joy Reid Claims Her Website Was Hacked

Nobody is hacking Joy Reid. People are actively engaged in hacking Russian websites and have admitted as much.

And in related news, multiple Apple apps crashed yesterday and were down for several hours. Apple still has not disclosed what happened.

Tit for tat, perhaps?

What is interesting is that General Milley said this. 72 hours and all over.

Why are you assuming they are using maneuver doctrine?

Uh, what else do you call the attack on Kiev from Belarus in the North? To the East of that force the Dnieper is actually a reservior, and to the West is no natural boundary and the most nationalist part of Ukraine which is getting resupplied from NATO. At a minimum, the nationalist militias will continue to harass them and outnumber them. The long term does not favor Russia on this front.

Very few know what they grand plan is. SO far Russia has taken quite a bit of the east and south. Kiev stands so far, but if you look at the map they are only open to the south down river. Like Russia is trying to get the civies and non combatants out.

Russia has made advances in the East along a front, and from the South, aided by naval power. The attack from Belarus on Kiev forces Ukraine to divert resources to defend the capital from the other fronts, but if the Russian goal is to take as much land East of the Dnieper and deny Ukraine a port on the Black Sea, then perhaps it was ill advised.

This is far from shock and awe, but if you go back a few hundred years this is a pretty good plan for besieging a city back in the days of the ideals of Just War.
If that is the case, the same rules say that after a period of time, anyone who remains in the city is considered dead and will be treated accordingly.

In the present era, targeting a civilian population is a war crime. What is shocking is that Europe is still funding Putin's War by buying oil and gas from Russia. The Poles have started to protest along the crossings to Belarus, which could have an affect, but Europe still needs to shut down trade with Russia. Expect more pressure for that result.

Digging in around a city does not mean you have admitted failure in taking it. It could just be you’ve decided the beat approach all round is siege. Why wreck a city? Why submit your soldiers to house-to-house? Look what happened to Stalingrad.

People who cite this as a sign of imminent defeat have no F**in clue.

Such interest about something so small. I remember the Brits suffered 60,000 casualties the first day of the Somme.

The Komsomolskaya Pravda website was not hacked. They uploaded a article with the actual casualty figures, then edited it out a few minutes later.

Nobody one hacks a newspaper site to insert single paragraphs into articles like that. Someone was put out a feeler to see how the Russian populace would respond when the truth comes out.

I went over the editing, timeline and archiving on a earlier thread here.
