I know this is the Sunday talk show thread, but regarding other days of the week: Gutfeld’s show was back this week and he was loaded for bear. I really, really enjoyed his mushy montage of Chris Cuomo and Don Lemon proclaiming their mutual love .... and then along comes the latest story about how they are now throwing each other to the wolves.
Which could provide a clue regarding the Mystery Battalion of "Ottawa police" that showed up to thrash/abuse all those truckers/protesters last month.
Surely acted as reincarnations of SS. Maybe even worse.
Bet Kurtz was eating it up.
Well done NY Post.
NATO is an anachronistic organization, a relic of the Cold War. It should have been abolished after the Soviet Union collapsed. The US bears most of the costs and the risk. Europe is much bigger than Russia economically and demographically. The fact that only 5 NATO countries meet their obligation on spending 2% of their GDP on defense shows how much they fear the Russians.
The US has provided the security umbrella for Europe over 75 years. Time to end it. We are the world’s biggest debtor nation. We can’t afford the costs.
You are right about NATO.
Once upon a time it was a good idea, it served a genuine purpose.
But Europe has not been a great continent populated by great people. Not to mention not keeping to their commitments.
It’s time for America to stop protecting these people.
I consider them a bunch of losers and me and Trump think it’s time for NATO to be done away with.

Why is it stupid of Germany to go green if their main other choice is dependency on Russian fuel?
I could go into it more but I won’t. When Biden goes off script he’s totally lost that has to be it.
On the surface what you said makes perfect sense. Problem is its an org. like the UN and is already formed. It's at a point where it could go either way.
Under Trump he would scare the crap out of all of them. It might take a little time but he could shape them right up. Under Biden it's a huge loss and up for grabs. Not an easy answer to what to do.
Once again its all about leadership, germany does not have any, they need it bad.
Germany deactivated 3 nuclear power plants and stopped operation of all coal plants. All choices. And they put themselves in the position of being overly reliant on Russian oil and gas rather than diversify their energy sources.
Biden killed the US as a net energy exporter. He issued environmental regulations that made it harder to produce oil and gas; he increased royalty fees on gas; he stopped all new leases for drilling on federal land; he reversed support for the XL pipeline, and vowed to end reliance on fossil fuels by 2030. The US could have supplied Germany with LNG.
I paid $75 to fill up 3/4 of a tank this morning. Luckily, I don’t have to commute to work. I spoke to the checkout lady at the grocery store today. She drives to work. Because of the cost of gas, she sets a limit of $25 a fill-up. Inflation is a regressive tax. It hurts those at the bottom of the economic ladder the worst.
The longer this goes on, the greater the public reaction will be. It is a constant reminder of the failed Biden policies. Biden’s unwillingness to change his anti-fossil fuels ideology could result in civil unrest.
Kennan wrote for Spring 1998 publication, so his views would have been shaped leading into 1997, If the following quote from a Russian is valid, then I have some additional observations on what Kennan wrote.
“Dima Vorobiev, former Propaganda Executive at Russia
Answered Oct 9, 2017
Russian rulers had a big, expanding problem throughout the 1990s. The lack of legitimacy.
Ever since Yeltsin shot to smithereens the Russian parliament in 1993, and gave himself almost unlimited powers, he was increasingly losing support. He appeared more and more like usurper. It all was exacerbated by the faked elections in 1996, the general chaos, as well as the national bankruptcy in 1998. A real prospect of Communist re-taking political power was looming large all these years.”
I suspect that any earlier understandings that Kennan may have had from Gorbachev were probably largely canceled by the combined levels of amateurism occurring in both the US and Russian governments in the later 1990s. Also in the period immediately before Kennon wrote, the Russian powers (Oligarchs) did not have in mind that Putin would have a well developed mind and will of his own and the mental acquity and iron intention to follow his own dreams of power, riches, and fame. Their goals were mostly wealth and comfort and they did not read him very well if they expected someone they would control.
The kind of misunderstanding of Russia and their goals were clearly not well understand by most Americans during WWll, the absolute visciousness of Stalin was ignored to get him doing his share of the fighting in eastern Europe. The visciousness of Russian occupation was well understood by Germans who faced Soviet occupation. Two of my grandmother’s sisters were elderly single women, one a gynecologist, the other a dentist, living together in Berlin. My great aunt, the doctor, must have known what was being done to German women by the invading Russians. The 2 women turned on the gas and killed themselves. In America communists and fellow travelers excoriated Roosevelt for wanting to aid England while Stalin had a peace pact with Hitler, but completely flipped once Russia was the target. After the war ended, Stalin had the goal of taking over our major ports like New York and on the west coast with communist labor leaders like Gus Hall. My father was almost never home, because he was in a constant struggle and meetings to try to prevent communists seizing his white colar union using money given them by management. Fifty-five years later I have had political battles with a man raised by communist parents living in the same area I lived as a child, who still believes the red dream. Sadly, 20 years after Kennan’s letter, Russia is definitely moving in the Stalinist direction. Pity the Russian people.
I think Biden has been conveying to Europe that they will have to do more for themselves and at least some of them have heard and are changing. Can you say which are the 5 couontries that are paying their 2%?
LOL. Isn't that the truth.
Russia's reform efforts were led by naive Russian elites with too much pride and stupid Western liberal figure like Jeffrey Sachs. We had a doomed social experiment which blew up real good, paving the way to the rise of Putin.
