We will see of course, but such certainties have a habit of wearing away. Ukraine is not an existential matter for Russia, obviously not after 30 years away.
Actually Ukraine is a pretty existential concern for Mother Russia. The farmland of the Ukes provides something like 80% of the grain Russia imports. Pooty would definitely like to control that production. The grain has long been available tho, without destroying everything else to get it.
