Last I checked Putin is doing a lot of bombing and very little talking.
Once he takes Ukraine he won’t be satisfied. He has seen weakness
from the EU countries and the U.S.

That’s why the idea is to talk BEFORE the bombing begins. He’s now losing soldiers, he’s going to take what he was willing to negotiate on and possibly more, in Ukraine.

Yep, could be, but maybe not. I think the best way to predict will be to see what he does with Ukraine, should he take it all. If he sticks by his limited demands, which means Ukraine becomes like Finland during the Cold War (neutral militarily, but otherwise a free and prosperous country), then there’s likely room to work things out, if he keeps it all and tries to make it just another Russian republic, then that bodes bad.
Personally, I think he’ll abide by his original, limited, demands as I really doubt he wants anything to do with a culture that despises him. But it will be his call.
