My solution to Ukraine is
1. Ukraine vows to not join NATO
2. Ukraine accepts Donbas area previously (before Feb 24, 2022) as part of Russia.
3. Ukraine accepts Crimea as part of Russia.
4. All Russian forces immediate withdrawal from Ukraine identified in 2 & 3 above.
5. NATO promises not to allow Ukraine membership.
6. Russia vows never to invade Ukraine again.
7. All sanctions and arm sales go back to Ante Bellum status.
So in other words the Ukraine should just completely surrender?
I wonder if anyone has come to grips with the fact that we are in a new Cold War. How can that be walked back politically and economically? And there is the issue of a broken, destroyed Ukraine with millions of Ukrainian refugees scattered throughout Europe and the rest of the world. A new Marshall Plan? Who is going to pay for it. I doubt Russia believes in the Pottery Barn Rule, you broke it, you pay for it.
The problems in Ukraine are exactly why we need to stay out. The only reason anyone from the U.S. is interested is because Ukraine was so corrupt. It was a huge laundry.
So, basically, we have a huge gas station:Russia; next to a huge Laundry:Ukraine. Will the problems be solved amicably? Not likely.
I have no doubt that some version of your "solution" will eventually prevail. It sure looks like we'll have some sort of divided Ukraine, akin to E vs W Germany or N vs S Korea. The BIG problem, of course, is who/what institution will "enforce" all of the promises?
