Nairobi (AFP) – More than 70 percent of South Sudan's population will face extreme hunger this year as conflict and climate-related disasters deepen food scarcity, the UN's World Food Programme (WFP) warned Friday.

Since gaining independence from Sudan in 2011, the world's newest nation has been in the throes of economic and political crisis, and is struggling to recover from a five-year civil war that left nearly 400,000 people dead.

On Friday, the WFP warned of a fresh hunger crisis threatening millions of South Sudanese already battered by floods and a resurgence of conflict.

"While global attention remains fixated on Ukraine, a hidden hunger emergency is engulfing South Sudan with about 8.3 million people in South Sudan -– including refugees -– (facing) extreme hunger in the coming months," the WFP said in a statement.

Doesn't South Sudan have lots of oil?

I thought that is why we split it off from Sudan. Another case where nation state boundaries weren't so sacrosanct.

The lunatic dismantling of the fossil fuel industry has resulted in huge increases in the price of natural gas which is the basic ingredient of high nitrogen fertilizer. Fertilizer is nowexpensive and scarce. Crop yields around the world are diminishing. The lunatics are causing a famine. Wars will ensue.

Remind me. Was there non-stop coverage of their war like there is of the Ukraine war?

Something racist going on here.

It’s fertile land. The people are the problem.
As always in Africa. (See Rhodesia/Zimbabwe)

3rd world agriculture depends upon imported fertilizer that is no longer available. Yields will crash. This year’s African harvest will be down 100 Million tons. Next year’s harvest will be worse.

FAMINE is coming to Africa, Asia and parts of S America and E Europe.

No problem.

The Biden regime will declare the population “refugees” and send squadrons of 747s to airlift them into the U.S. straight onto the welfare rolls in a town near you.

I’ve been hearing about Sudan starving to death since I was 5 in the first grade and they passed out the little Unicef milk cartons I was supposed to fill with pennies while trick or treating. Let’s just call it a wrap on Sudan and close the place.
