Again....at least you’re being honest about it, unlike so many others, even on FR. And if it the rebate is there, while I may not like it, I ain’t mad at you for applying for and getting it.
Just like CornPop’s plan to have the taxpayer fund 1000s of charging stations across the country, it’s government picking winners and losers. And that is no bueno.
On a side note, when Tesla’s came out years ago, they were going for over $100k. Georgia, in true corrupt fashion, was offering $5000 or $7500 tax breaks(can’t remember which). Given the price, obviously only the wealthy were buying them and they became a bit of a “status symbol”. If the math a car guy gave me one day is correct, every $1000 financed is $20 in a payment. $100k Tesla...$25k down...$1500/month payment...Anyone that can afford that, for a Sunday Driver or hobby car doesn’t deserve the taxpayers rebate. But again, I ain’t knocking the buyer, I’m knocking the corrupt POSs in government for the giveaways.
Agree totally about how the tax rebates don’t come out of thin air or are free. Also, I’m fairly well off and don’t really think they should go to me for subsidizing my solar panels, etc.

I do not have a Tesla or any other electric car. I drive too much and gas is much more convenient. I do not like the $4.39 I paid to day driving from Kentucky to Florida. I do however have solar panels on my house in Kentucky and my house in Florida. I have 9KW in Florida and 12KW on the roof in Kentucky with battery backup, large battery backup for the whole house. With A/C in the summer and no sun I will run down the battery after about 3 days so I would likely not use whole house a/c. I bought a couple mini-splits for the Kitchen/dining room and our bedroom. They produce heat and cooling and are miserly users of electricity. In Florida I have no battery. We have a pool and like to heat it and the cheapest way to get a lot of heat quickly is to use a heat pump pool heater so we offset the cost of heating the pool with the solar. Did I take advantage of the tax credit? You betcha! Did I do it because of the tax credits, no. I wanted to be sure I always have electricity since I have a few freezers with food in them.
While I may consider a hybrid vehicle some day right now an electric vehicle is not on my radar.
I am not a greenie and I am not cheating anybody out of their tax money. It was not a rebate, it was a credit, similar to a deduction but better. If you take the standard deduction or if you itemize you are taking deductions just the same as anyone who takes the credit for solar. The government gives interest deductions on home mortgages so that you will buy a house, they give solar credits so you will invest in solar, there is no difference. If someone thinks it unfair they should just take advantage of it but they better hurry there isn’t going to be any more after this year.
I love my solar. When an Ice storm hit a couple years ago I didn’t even know the power was out until a neighbor saw I had lights on and wanted to know if the power had come back on at my house. At my house it never went off. That is why I got it, at least that is why in Kentucky.
I am going now I think on 8 years and I am at break even financially. That is a very long ROI but I didn’t get it for the savings in Kentucky. In Florida with no backup it was a lot cheaper. I didn’t have to get big inverters or battery chargers or isolation breakers for each string of panels.
If you are thinking about solar, no battery backup is a really cheap system these days especially if you do it yourself, I did. I learned a lot from it. The harder, first system was in Kentucky the really easy system in Florida I had installed, the installers completed the job in a few hours one day. The 9KW installed in Florida cost about half of the 12KW in Kentucky with backup. Just parts in KY cost about 50K with a $20000 credit. So, I ended up paying about $30K for my system in Kentucky. I had to pay it all up front but got to deduct $20,000.00 from my tax bill. Would I do it again knowing what I know now? Yes, only I would do more panels on the roof. I think I would like to have put 18KW on the roof instead of my 12.

And try doing the EV and charger cost without subsidies from someone else, along with your feel-good solar panels! Nobody is subsidizing my gas costs! You're also cheating the gov't out of the gas taxes for the roads - more freeloading, which someone else has to make up for.
If you were really honest, you would look at the real cost of vehicle & equipment (no subsidies), energy (w/o freeloading, and cost of the time to re-charge), evaded gas taxes, opportunity cost of the vehicle purchase vs. keeping the ICE vehicle, and the total carbon cost of the EV - those rare earths aren't cheap.

I can even see it as a mass transit vehicle.

One day in the future EV’s and ICE vehicles will live in harmony. EVs will never REPLACE the ICE powered vehicles nor should they.

If I were to find a way to legally steal like this, my gasoline costs could be zero.
When you collect “free” money in the form or purchase rebates for buying the car, rebates for installing a charger, and can parasite electricity from your company, the costs associated with driving are not honest.
If EVERYONE in your company buys electric cars, they all won’t be even able to plug in, and the company will eventually have to charge for it. And that’s before we even begin to discuss the existing energy shortage in places like California.

I have lots of friends who are of different political, Ideological, religious beliefs than I. You are free to live in a self censored world.
You might be surprised to learn that people who may differ widely on certain things may also have shared interests or commonalities in gardening, travel, music, cooking, hobbies, pets, DIY stuff.
That does not mean I share their political, ideological,religious beliefs or that they share mine. We can have spirited discussions on those things sometimes.
