Yeah, pansies with nuclear missiles.

Russia has 1,458 warheads on 527 intercontinental ballistic missiles, submarine-launched missiles and bombers.
The US has 1,389 warheads on 665 intercontinental ballistic missiles, submarine-launched missiles and bombers.

The way the are acting, I would not be surprised if most of them were useless. Rusted through. Shorted fuses,...

So if Russia demands a million tons of gold per year or they’ll nuke us, do we agree? After all - they’ve got nukes. Surely our lives are worth a million tons of gold a year.

How about if they ask for Poland? Surely our lives are worth Poland. How about the EU? Surely our lives are worth the EU. How about if they said the US president and all American officials should be appointed by the Russian leader? Surely our lives are worth a few meaningless government posts.

You’ve completely missed the point of our nuclear force. It’s to deter the other side from using nukes. If he does, he not only incinerates himself and his entire country - he wipes out his place in history. And that’s the one thing national leaders crave the most, and the one thing Alexander and Julius Caesar pursued and achieved successfully to the exclusion of most other things. Can’t be a significant person in your country’s history if there’s no country left.

Thanks, I’ve been looking for the latest numbers. People often confuse total number of nukes with number of nukes available for immediate launch, and the numbers are far different.

Do you have a source for those numbers? I’d like to explore more.

They seem very close—almost parity. In any case, enough to destroy most everything on each side. Our nukes are targeted more on their military targets and theirs on our industrial capacity.

China, BTW, is listed as having 3/400 nukes, but has enacted a massive build of silos lately. The numbers of available to launch nukes for them is going up very fast.

Besides the USA, Russia and China, these other countries have available nukes to launch:

Britian
France
Israel
India
Pakistan
North Korea
Iran?
