Wow! Wonder how many steam engines are still out there. Is “thick oil” still cheap?
No thick oil is not cheap. But you can get drain oil for cheap, filter it and use that.
I wish I had paid attention to that on the radio.
The 4014 is one what was called the “Big Boy” and they got that one rebuilt a few years ago. It is one of the most powerful class of steam locomotives ever built-a 4-8-8-4. the 8-8 means 16 drivers.
They also have the 4-6-6-4 and the 4-8-4 number 844 that was never retired.
There are several 4-8-4s out there that have been rebuilt by various people.
The problem is with these steam locomotives is the constant maintenance that has to be done on them. Not very user friendly. But they have POWER like no other.
