Sure it is; at my age with COPD and UNVACCINATED I am pretty sure something other than a nuclear bomb or missile will get me first.

I DON’T WEAR A STUPID, USLESS MASK EITHER!

“People may already feel fear and anxiety about the coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19). The threat of a nuclear explosion can add additional stress.”

You are right, I LoL. They cut and paste information about floods as well.

The 50% casualty radius for the blast effects of even a 1 megaton airburst is about 2 miles. Even in a large-scale nuclear exchange, most people are unlikely to be that close to ground zero, and many people will not be at grave risk from fallout.

The people in charge in the ‘50s were a little more serious about the risks and saw plenty of reasons to keep kids from being needlessly injured or killed by falling debris.

Yeah, I remember seeing On The Beach on cable, during the Gulf War. I guess someone was indulging in some fear porn programming.

That's a rough movie to absorb, mostly because it dwells on the hopelessness of the situation for people far removed from the actual hostilities. It has some beautiful moments, though.

The scene with Gregory Peck and Ava Gardner after the fishing trip, in the hotel - that was sublime. A storm outside, a drunken version of Waltzing Matilda going on and on in the next room... then the moment when the two realize everything is beautiful in the moment because of their love for each other, so everything they see and hear is perfect...even the raucous singing gives way to a flawless baritone voice and perfect harmony. All tinged with the bitterness of impending doom - so much horror and beauty there, intertwined.

At least the nukes will end global warming with the nuclear winter.

You will if you are installing insulation. Right?

Hiding under desks was the equivalent of today’s masking. A useless palliative designed to make the public feel the government was in control of the situation.

When installing insulation whether fiberglass or asbestos, although I try to stay away from those products nowadays.

The preformed sheet or pipe insulation seems to work just as well (if not better) than the older stuff and it’s a much cleaner install.
