"It is not a couple of air strikes now, the situation in Ukraine is officially a war... We will implement the Montreux Convention," Mevlut Cavusoglu, Turkey's foreign minister, said in an interview with broadcaster CNN Turk.

Balancing its Western commitments and close ties to Moscow, Ankara has in recent days called the Russian attack unacceptable but until Sunday had not described the situation in Ukraine as a war.

Ukraine is humiliating Russia with little weapons.
They can’t harm Turkey.

They better be worried about Ukraine taking back Crimea when this is over. If we give them hardpoint SAMs and Harpoon ship killers, they can threaten Russian ships and tell Russia to evacuate Crimea.

“Maybe, because Putin’s army is looking pathetically incompetent against a completely outgunned Ukrainian army, that has no air force. What do you think happens to Putin’s air force if it faces off with NATO?”

Since I don’t know Putin’s timetable, I won’t agree that he’s looking incompetent, at least not yet. As to squaring off against NATO’s air force, perhaps we just have to find out as Russia has some darn good SAMs.

“Yet Cavusoglu reiterated that Turkey cannot block all Russian warships accessing the Black Sea due to a clause in the pact exempting those returning to their registered base.

“There should not be any abuse of this exemption. Ships that declare returning to their bases and passing through the straits should not be involved in the war,” Cavusoglu said.”

Turkey has left itself plenty of room to not do much of anything but to look like it is. Typical middle eastern double talk.

“Lol, Putin can’t afford to start anything with NATO”

Dream on friend! One nuke takes out the Turks. Putin’s got them and says he’s ready to put them to use.

Interesting and clever.

This indebts all NATO and "Bribe" Biden to Turkey whom is far more America's, NATOs and Christianity's enemy, than even neutral, while not committing Turkey to actually block Russian Naval movement to the Med.

NATO cannot directly order Turkish Military to do anything including use force and Turkey can order them not to, on the QT.

However another NATO member could fire on Russian assets transiting.

That would constitute a NATO member, other than Turkey, initiating the conflict, releasing all NATO members from the duty to support other NATO members.

World War Woke, with NATO legally as aggressor, and every NATO member able to withhold THEIR troops from the killing, and China able to cite that for policy decisions.

Not an ideal situation for Brandon.

If Putin uses a nuke on Turkey, he is a dead man. You think he's a pariah today?

“We’d better not go to war for Turkey, should have kicked them out years ago.”

Two weeks ago I would have agreed with you, but it seems we are back in an era where we can’t be picky about our allies.

Turkey is either on our side or the Sino-Russian side, and it is much better to have them on our side.

Bennett in Israel is also working to rebuilding the Israeli alliance with the Turks and there is a lot of recent cooperation with them in Syria and the Caucuses.

Agreed. The Bosporus gets twice a much sea traffic as the Suez and Panama canals combined. Additionally, Erdogan is building a canal to bypass the Bosporus to avoid the Montreaux treaty. Soon, Erdogan will be one of the wealthiest men on earth…

Yep, we may get rid of Putin, but don’t think for a minute there won’t be another baddie to take his place. And Erdogan fits the bill.

“If Putin uses a nuke on Turkey, he is a dead man. You think he’s a pariah today?”

He’s dead either way if NATO gets involved in Ukraine and/or the Turks attempt to block his access to and from the Black Sea.

He knows that! Say what you will, he’s not dumb. There are plenty of martyrs in this world past and present. He’s already shown the world he is not bluffing. Better listen.

Guess what else? We’re dead, too (including NATO). And he knows that as well.

We all get to start from scratch again. Maybe we’ll do better the next time around.
