So what? The USA has turned on Israel too.
U.S. out of the corrupt and dangerous U.N. U.N. out of the U.S.
The Israeli heartland is extremely vulnerable if the Golan Heights were in the possession of a technologically sophisticated, hostile opponent. Abba Eban used to state in almost every speech that Israel must have “geographically defensible borders”. Israel’s leaders know this very well and will never voluntarily cede Golan. They also realize in this technologically sophisticated era defense is increasingly difficult regardless of borders.
As regards to Russia, the enormity of the disaster and consequences that Putin’s monumentally stupid invasion of Ukraine has left Russian leaders themselves bewildered and stressed. They are lashing out at Israel exercising their always present and sometimes latent age old Russian anti-Semitism to vent their rage.
Yes, the UN dislikes Israel
Good, keep spreading yourself thinner, Pooty Poot.
Israel didn’t foolish give away their Sampson option.
It sounds like typical tit-for-tat pissing match.
It looks like Russia's guy is drawing an analogy, of their occupation of Ukraine to Israel's of the Golan. The latter is a strategic necessity.
And now it gets REALLY interesting…
Magog will meet the G_d of Israel and be utterly destroyed. Gog is servant of antichrist.
A perfect fit for the “American” Thinker.
The money quote:
“Just to show how farcical the United Nations is, despite Russia being poised to attack Ukraine, the U.N. Security Council nevertheless followed its usual leadership rotation, making Vladimir Putin the Security Council chairman.”
That, more than the Olympics in Peking, entered into Putin’s timing of his assault on Ukraine.
It time to close down the UN it’s a waste of money
Jerusalem is a cup of trembling.
I don’t know where you were in 1980, but Israel has held the Golan Heights since June 1967 so it is unlikely the Syrians were lobbing rockets into the Galilee after that. Of course Hamas and its ilk have been doing so ever since, from Lebanon, Gaza and elsewhere, but not from the Golan.
I also stayed at a Kibbutz on the border and toured the Golan in 1999, just prior to the second intifada. You can see all of the Syrian bunkers (which spy Eli Cohen mapped prior to the 67 war) and gun emplacements.
It was not a tenable situation and the reason why Israel will never return the Golan. Given the current situation in Syria, there would be no reason to do so as Assad won’t be cutting any deals with Israel.
