Could be as long as in the Ukrainian Constitution it states Ukraine can never join NATO, that may be fine for Putin.
Call it wishful thinking, but perhaps that’s the whole reason Putin did this, he was tired of waiting. Of course it wasn’t justified. But I really don’t see a long-term total occupation of Ukraine playing all that well back home. But getting the guarantee of no NATO in Ukraine is something Russians do want.
1. Ukraine's Constitution will be changed to affirm no NATO affiliation ever.
2. Russia agrees to keep the Russian military out of Ukraine forever.
3. Ukraine formally endorses Nord Stream 2 and requests that Germany give it full approval.
4. Russia agrees to very substantially increase Ukraine's fees for Russian gas that goes through Ukraine.
5. A compromise is reached about Donetsk and Luhansk.
