Russia-Ukraine war: What triggered Putin and what may happen next
Fox news ^ | 02/24/2022 | Greg Norman

It had been feared for years: a full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine. And now, it’s happening.

Images of Russian tanks rolling into Ukraine were perhaps the most chilling that Fox News monitored through a long night during the opening round of the assault.

The question remains: What is Russian President Vladimir Putin’s aim?

If it is just to enlarge and solidify the pro-Russian eastern portion of the country that has been disputed for the last eight years that would be grim enough.

That shooting destroying breaking things kind of war is so last century. You’re right China will just buy off everyone who’s a government decision maker. As you pointed out use economic muscle to take over the corporate boards. Use the natives to keep the locals in line. Why do oppression yourself when you can subcontract it to the locals? Look at Canada!

Which is also why the ceiling of Russian power is so low compared to China’s, military power will only get you so far.

Not defending but...
Putin doesn’t want NATO missiles in Ukraine any more than Kennedy wanted Russian missiles in Cuba. Black sea access is vital to him.

I predict this will end soon and Vladimir will “negotiate terms” with the government.

Unless someone does something stupid...

Well, since they are “nazis” how about we just put them in ovens and be done with it?

Wow. Your pollyannish take on Ukraine is impressive. What a loyal team player?

If you don’t get jabbed, you’ll get tossed out of the US military and lose access to VA health care benefits....Every American will get health coverage and free public college if you vote for Joe in Hiding.

Biden probably said he would take Putin back behind the shed and give him a good old fashioned Corn Pop ass kicking.

As I stated the deal I make is this:

Western Ukraine breaks off to become The Republic of Ruthenia, based in L’viv, eligible for EU/NATO membership if it so wishes.

The rest of Ukraine is a neutral state with neither NATO nor Russian troops deployed. Russia can keep Crimea and the Luhansk/Donbass areas.

Russia also acknowledges all current members of NATO and renounces all future claims on said countries (Poland, the Baltic States, etc.) And NATO membership is capped, so no new members can join.

If there was going to be a negotiated solution for Ukraine the Russian tanks would still be in Russia.

The status of Baltic countries will now be up for negotiation.

NATO nyet

"For all those on FR who said Putin was a good Christian man and a good guy what say you now?"

Well, for opening bid.. Pooty Poot never made a big chunk of my 401K worthless, never called me a domestic terrorist, or made perversion the law of the land.

If you're all butt-hurt about what your tv tells you, maybe you should enlist. My family already gave at the office.

Too costly. If he gets the guarantee of no NATO troops in Ukraine (which pretty much is the deal we have with Austria), I believe it's enough to save face. That's how Trump would approach it, make the deal that allows the other guy to save face.

How about Biden just announcing that domestic oil and gas production will restart immediately and keystone is starting back up? Starve the beast is the only thing that our adversaries understand.

BS... Putin wants to recreate the USSR and take as much land as possible as dictators tend to want to do.

the war for the country’s people’s hearts and minds – and souls – could prove to be much more difficult.

That is easy to overcome for an old KGB hand. You just kill of those who don't like you that the rest either cower or get out of the country.

Putin has been clear for 15 years: NATO on his border is a redline issue. We gave Zelensky false hope and meddled where we had no business and if our leaders had any brains they’d come out right now and say it is a dead issue.

If Trump was president this situation would never have occurred because he would have made that clear. It is MAGA not MUGA.
