Donald Trump's new social media venture, Truth Social, has launched in Apple's App Store, potentially marking the former president's return to social media after he was banned from several platforms last year.
The app was available to download shortly before midnight on Sunday and was automatically downloaded to Apple Inc devices belonging to users who had pre-ordered the app.
Some users reported either having trouble registering for an account or were added to a waitlist with a message: "Due to massive demand, we have placed you on our waitlist."
The app has been available for people invited to use it during its test phase, Reuters previously reported.
Trump was banned from Twitter Inc, Facebook and Alphabet Inc's YouTube following the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol by his supporters, after he was accused of posting messages inciting violence.
Led by former Republican US Representative Devin Nunes, Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG), the venture behind Truth Social, joins a growing portfolio of technology companies that are positioning themselves as champions of free speech and hope to draw users who feel their views are suppressed on more established platforms.
So far none of the newer companies, which include Twitter competitors Gettr and Parler and video site Rumble, have come close to matching the popularity of their mainstream counterparts.
"This week we will begin to roll out on the Apple App Store. That's going to be awesome, because we're going to get so many more people that are going to be on the platform," Nunes said in a Sunday appearance on Fox News' "Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo".
"Our goal is, I think we're going to hit it, I think by the by the end of March we're going to be fully operational at least within the United States," he added.
Truth Social's app store page detailing its version history showed the first public version of the app, or version 1.0 was available a day ago, confirming a Reuters report. The current version 1.0.1 includes "bug fixes," according to the page.
On Friday, Nunes was on the app urging users to follow more accounts, share photos and videos and participate in conversations, in an apparent attempt to drum up activity, according to a person with knowledge of the matter.
Even as details of the app begin trickling out, TMTG remains mostly shrouded in secrecy and is regarded with skepticism by some in tech and media circles. It is unclear, for example, how the company is funding its current growth.
TMTG is planning to list in New York through a merger with blank-cheque firm Digital World Acquisition Corp (DWAC) and stands to receive $US293 million in cash that DWAC holds in a trust, assuming no DWAC shareholder redeems their shares, TMTG said in an October 21 press release.
Additionally, in December TMTG raised $US1 billion committed financing from private investors; that money also will not be available until the DWAC deal closes.
Digital World's activities have come under scrutiny from the Securities and Exchange Commission and the US Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, according to a regulatory filing, and the deal is likely months away from closing.
Apk should be released in case they go bye bye.
Alex Jones had a apk app of his site infowars, after he was banned, but it quit working last year. You just add the web page, anyone of his sites, to the home scteen and use that on a phone. I did that with two sites. His Banned video site and Infowars. But kind of abandoned him for 5 reasons. Just go and read him and see videos occasionally.
1. He fired DeAnna Lorraine. Had financial trouble. She moved to Stew Peters site or broadcast. Does a few videos there.
2. He had a falling out with the morning guy David Knight. David says it’s because of his opinions. Alex said it was the financial problems again. David was fired, but it was after he trashed a Alex Jones guest.
3. He also cut three women from working for him. Millie Weaver, Kaitlin Bennett, and Savannah Hernandez all were let go between 2019 and 2021. Budget yes but he also had a falling out with Millie and Bennett. And the British guy, Paul went Joseph Watson went on his own way with a new site. Since I don’t follow much not sure if he occasionally returns on broadcasts.
There were two more reasons but this wasn’t the topic.
Still never was able to join Mike Lindell’s place. But others have. It might be my email is Gmail. Never accepted it. Yeah yeah created another one elsewhere now forgot the site and password.
Somebody please ping me after the hoopla dies down and they have a website worth visiting.
They need three versions to max the audience: Windows, Android and Apple.
“While Donald Trump and Devin Nunes are two of my very favorite people in the whole wide world, I have concerns about this.”
Isn’t Devin Nunes the guy who tried to sue Twitter because someone online was making fun of him? Didn’t work well IIRC.
Thanks for being so reflexively judgmental. Next time you launch a national project with no glitches, please share it with us.
BINGO! And, user financial accounts affected in some way, potentially.
“So far none of the newer companies, which include Twitter competitors Gettr and Parler and video site Rumble, have come close to matching the popularity of their mainstream counterparts.”
When Dorsey Svengali can buy one million fake Twitter users for a thousand bucks, of course Twitter will look “popular.” BTW, 70% of tweets are leftist bots screaming at other leftist bots.
Me too. Still hitting resend... Had to do that with the email verification as well.
I got the email verification but not the text code. So I know my email works and was correct on the registration page.

The company should have known better and taken steps to avoid a fiasco. For example roll it out in small geographical areas or employed beta testers. But no, they really screwed this one up, not that I take pleasure in saying this but I’m sick of us shooting ourselves in the foot.
from a foxnews article
“A source familiar with the rollout told FOX Business Sunday that the company is operating under a staged-approach, and explained that TRUTH Social will populate with new users who pre-ordered the app over the next 10 days.”
Same here

The app downloads on the phone no problem. The registration process starts up, you get the email verification. Next you get to the point where it is supposed to send a text code. It doesn’t send the code and leaves you in the lurch. At no point are you told you wait x amount of days or that you must have pre-ordered the app. No, it simply stops working. This is a textbook Epic Fail. Why do we make excuses for this thing which is turning out to be a PR fiasco?
Some users reported either having trouble registering.
All the left news media want in to woke it up?.
It took 2 hours for the verification email to come through, thought maybe google was screwing with emails. Then when I try to verify it, it says my verification key expired.
I’m at work. I can’t stare at my email for hours. Tried to do it online, can’t get a text to confirm phone number.
I won’t have much patience deal with this for 10 days.
Liar
Ha! That’s it? All you’ve got?
So says the long known, FR lying troll.
Buzz off.
Welcome to FR.
Thanks for the thread.
