Hispanic is not a color. It is a language heritage.
In the statistical mumbo jumbo of the Dept of Commerce, Hispanics are “Hispanics of any race,” whites are “non-Hispanic whites,” and blacks are “non-Hispanic blacks.” Hispanic is therefore a statistical construct. It’s not a reality nor is it even an identity, as most Hispanics think of themselves along national lines (e.g., Mexican, Puerto Rican, Dominican).
Many Hispanics are mixed race, by which I mean a mix of the Pre-Columbian peoples of this hemisphere (who, genetically, are a mix of Caucasoid and Mongoloid people), and the Europeans and African that came or were brought to this hemisphere. As to what this racial ancestry means today, means different things to different people. For example, a person can be proud of his or her tribal heritage, or national heritage, and this might be associated with one or another race or mix of races. But, as far as legal distinctions go, only Democrats and Nazis care.
In any case, Hispanic is not a color. It is a language heritage.
Maybe they should assign the genetic colors like they do for pixels or paint sample chips.
