With respect to China, the leadership is committed to becoming the dominant power on this planet. After the death of Mao, the CCP followed what the early Soviets called the New Economic Policy, but on steroids, allowing a large portion of the economy to be under the private sector, but with that sector well controlled by regime allies, e.g., the PLA owning several large enterprises. On the other hand, Russia might be able to conquer Ukraine, but its economy is largely propelled by energy exports. California's GDP is $3.0 trillion, vs. Russia is $1.5 trillion. On top of that, Putin and his cronies have extracted billions of dollars from the Russian economy. Russia alone cannot sustain a major war of conquest and occupation without a senior partner, which is Red China.

There is an element of nationalistic revenge on the part of China, for the humiliation that nation suffered in the 19th and nth Centuries, when Britain, France, and other countries, including the United States, occupied parts of China and dictated terms to the Chinese government regrading trade, including opium. Combined with the Marxist ideology that believes in the ultimate triumph of Communism, China's leadership is in a mindframe to establish world domination.

China and Russia are partners and have been so for several decades. Both countries have played a shell game with the West. China has established deep business ties with Western businesses and politicians: $2 million to the Clinton Foundation in 2013. Mitch McConnell has deep ties with China through his wife. Through these business and political connections, China has compromised much of the elite in both this country and the Western democracies.

You must understand that the ruling elite in our country and other Western countries are opposed to traditional and Biblical values. You cannot call the oppression connected to COVID in Canada, Australia, Germany, Austria, and numerous other so-called democracies anything other than tyranny, moving towards a Chinese style regime.

On the other hand, Russia has played a game of appearing to support traditional values and Orthodox Christianity. It is amazing what mileage the Russians have achieved with an occasional sign of the cross or candle lighting. The Soviets spent 70 years trying to suppress religion unsuccessfully. So the Soviets dropped the anti-religion campaign, and, under long standing KGB infiltration of the Russian Orthodox Church, developed a new narrative to gain the assent of the Russian population. They have convinced large segments of the conservative and libertarian communities that Russia is opposed to the New World Order. Now they are opposed to the West, but the Russians and the Chinese, combined with smaller Communist and radical Islamic states, want their own world order.

I am sorry for the Ukrainians. But the United States and its NATO allies are no longer nations committed to Western and Christian values. Again, no good guys between the Chinese/Russian combination or the Western New World Order.

***True enough, but basically irrelevant to the focus of this thread, which is the relationship of Ukraine to NATO.

California’s GDP is $3.0 trillion, vs. Russia is $1.5 trillion. On top of that, Putin and his cronies have extracted billions of dollars from the Russian economy. Russia alone cannot sustain a major war of conquest and occupation without a senior partner, which is Red China.
***Oh, so the relevance is how China is allied with Russia.

There is an element of nationalistic revenge on the part of China, for the humiliation that nation suffered in the 19th and nth Centuries, when Britain, France, and other countries, including the United States, occupied parts of China and dictated terms to the Chinese government regrading trade, including opium. Combined with the Marxist ideology that believes in the ultimate triumph of Communism, China’s leadership is in a mindframe to establish world domination.
***Yup enough, okay.

China and Russia are partners and have been so for several decades.
***They have had border skirmishes on China’s northern border.

***You sure are talking a lot about China. This is a thread about the Ukraine.

You must understand that the ruling elite in our country and other Western countries are opposed to traditional and Biblical values.
***This is a relatively recent phenomena.

You cannot call the oppression connected to COVID in Canada, Australia, Germany, Austria, and numerous other so-called democracies anything other than tyranny, moving towards a Chinese style regime.
***Yeah, okay. But we’re still not talking about Ukraine.

***You seem to be talking pretty far afield of the Ukrainian issue with NATO.

I am sorry for the Ukrainians. But the United States and its NATO allies are no longer nations committed to Western and Christian values.
***Oh, good, we’re talking about Ukraine.

Again, no good guys between the Chinese/Russian combination or the Western New World Order.
***Again, I think there CAN be good guys.
