Russia will be put on Double Secret Probation.
There will be no real consequences should Russia invade the Ukraine. NATO will fold like a cheap suit at the first sounds of cannon fire. If it doesn’t then Russia will stop sending natural gas to Western Europe and the Germans, the French and others will freeze. No one thinks the Ukrainians are worth freezing for, let alone dying. As for the US, what strategic value does Ukraine hold? None that I can see. The only benefit of US involvement is to provide the Administration with a Wag the Dog moment by diverting attention from out of control inflation, soaring violent crime, increasing drug deaths and an unsecured southern border.
