In the olden days politicians tried to get people back onto horses by requiring a man with a red flag to walk ahead of automobiles.
The market forces pushed the horse out and the auto in.

Today the politicians are mandating electric autos. Why not let the free market again decide what we want to drive?

The people behind this have no interest in what “the market” would decide. They know they lose completely under that scenario.

Makes sense in the Land of the Free, doesn't it?

But that's not how liberals think. They want to regulate every aspect of everyone's life because they know they are smarter than anyone else. The only time they adopt a libertarian position is if people are already making the choice they want them to make, as in abortion.
