This same thing has happened to our Kia Sorrento twice. They keep replacing the sensor. Next time they will be replacing the engine. Annoying but I will take a new engine when it comes to that.

As you can imagine, they are in no hurry to give away new engines. From talking to a service tech, they had an unofficial 3 strikes policy, meaning the 3rd hard failure led to engine replacement. Don’t back down, fight them. It’s uncommon for a knock sensor to fail on a relatively low mileage car, especially not twice. The knock sensor replace is just a way to buy time. When they replaced my engine, the service advisor walked me past 6 crated engines waiting for install.

The good news is we have a lifetime warranty on the engine. The bad news is, getting it replaced is a huge pain in the tush.
