I always figured Brady wanted to outlast Blanda, although, be fair, I don’t think Blanda was still playing QB at Tom’s age.

He was, but he didn't start. He went 1-3 in 1975 for 11 yards at 48.

That is what I saw too.
Blanda did play some quarterback at the age of 43 in the Colts-Raiders playoff game in 1970 when the Mad Bomber (Lamonica) was knocked out of the game, but he did kick until he was 48...

Blanda found out his contract was not being renewed from the NEWSPAPER....
Al Davis didn’t even discuss it with him.
Blanda could play a number of positions.
I NEVER forgave Davis for his actions.
