This is a tough one to follow. But I think you’re right. Unless I’m reading it wrong, the deputy shot and killed an off-duty cop. But it was that off-duty cop who was chasing some other guy.
So why is that “some other guy” being charged with murder? I guess it’s because cops can’t be wrong. So you gotta charge the civilian.
Mama always taught us “assumption is the mother of all f*** ups”. Sadly, the stupid deputy was never taught that lesson or forgot it…. and it cost a good man his life. He does not belong in law enforcement.

I had trouble getting the article to load (my computer dates back to the Eisenhower era). But it finally did load, sort of. It seems like the charged man was on the property of the shot man.
That complicates things, and makes it looks like the charged man was indeed correctly charged.

Officer arrives and finds two people fighting. Person A jumps up and runs into the house. Person B grabs a gun from the ground and starts to chase Person A. Cop fires to stop Person B. Just so happens that Person B is an off duty cop.
At least, that is how the article reads to me.
