U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg announced the department's new National Roadway Safety Strategy to curb a recent spike in traffic deaths. Above, Buttigieg speaks to the media after touring the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach on Jan. 11 in Long Beach, California.

In an interview with the Associated Press, Buttigieg said the Department of Transportation will provide $5 billion in grants over the next two years for states to implement lower speed limits, better lighting on crosswalks, additional bus and bike lanes and more. The grants will be funded by President Joe Biden's infrastructure package.

In an October report from the Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Buttigieg said over 20,000 people died on U.S. roads just in the first half of 2021. This is an 18.4 percent increase from the same period in 2020. The report added this is the highest projected number of traffic deaths since 2006.

Determined fawn tries everything to get dog to play "We cannot and should not accept these fatalities as simply a part of everyday life in America," he said.

Buttigieg told the AP he expected federal data from the third quarter of 2021 to show an even bigger increase in traffic deaths when it is released next week.

The “Sharp increase in Deaths” will happen this summer, because gas prices will be so high, people will be back to buying motorcycles and small cars for their only transportation.

“”In 2020, 38,680 people died on U.S. roads, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. In the first six months of 2021, that figure topped 20,000, an 18 percent jump over that same period in 2020.””

Yea and we had one of worst winter’s in a long time during that period. We had frozen roads multiple times here in West TX.

He knows that vax operators are going to be the next wave to hit the highways and airways of the world. We are going to see pilots and vehicle drivers of all sorts contributing to mayhem in the transportation arena. Be very careful out there.

Traffic fatalities are up due to reduced enforcement and increased disrespect for the law. Thanks, Barry.

Lowering speed limits will only increase illegality and, thus, traffic deaths.

I read an article that correlated traffic fatalities and the Ferguson effect.
I've posted here some back-of-the-envelope calculations on this, and it is clear that black traffic fatalities are up significantly as result of BLM.

Joe Biden implements 55mph speed limit across entire interstate highway system...to save lives and 45mph for Truckers to further wreck the economy.

It was proven years ago the 55 does not save lives at all, in fact traffic accidents increase. No state is going to want to go back to that. We can bring back CB radios and radar scanners.

We'll soon be back to the Democrat notion that giving illegal aliens drivers licenses will automatically make them safer drivers.

The drivers license will be just like the Wizard of Oz giving the Scarecrow a diploma - instant competence.

They are expecting a sharp increase in All Cause Deaths because of the Cause That May Not Be Mentioned.

They need to find categories into which stealthily, dishonestly to put the excess deaths OTHER THAN the category of “Vaccine-Caused Deaths”.

Oops, I named it.

How about requiring drivers to read English, license their car, license themselves and, and, and insure their car!
