the mask is the equivalent of security theatre at the airport. millions of Karen’s are strongly in favor, so that grandma doesn’t get the equivalent of the flu. millions more are keeping their kids at home despite the mask and vax.
the whole state is seriously (expletive). it’s nice to have the MDs reverse course, but it is too little too late. it is hard to turn around a cruise liner after 24 months of telling people to vax, mask and distance.
plus Gavin is a puppet for the CTA teachers union which funded his campaign and antirecall effort. CTA loves masks on the kiddies. So this goes nowhere without the fatcat union boss signoff.

Basically Grandma and everyone else is going to get Omicron.
Grandma’s vaxx may keep her out of the hospital.
So Grandma should decide to get vaxxed for Grandma.
Based on her assessed risk vs benefit.
Ditto for everyone else,
Kids who are vaxxed…kids who are unvaxxed= same viral load, with Omicron, which is a variant that escapes both vaxx and natural immunity ( from Delta and original Sars v2 )
