Even in peace it is hard to move big, heavy stuff from say a German port to a place like Bulgaria. I have had to do just that. Cant imagine keeping a military supplied over such distances.

Distance is the safety of Mother Russia.

Absolutely. As much as people look at “Blitzkrieg” as a Mechanized Strategy they fail to realize that the German forces still relied on horses @ 50% for transportation until the end of the war.
